Over 1 hour to make oven chips, vege burgers and baked beans?

I have been upstairs with ds (a whole other thread!) and dh said at 745 he will make some dinner. This is what he gave me, at 9.00

He cooks most nights, so not as if he struggled with it.
I am starving, and would have been happy with toast.

When ever I do oven chips they take an age in the oven.

Where am I going wrong.

Misses point of thread.

TOADfan · 28/07/2014 21:08

I think it does. Half an hour to heat the oven and about half an hour to cook. never cook oven chips but I imagine so

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 28/07/2014 21:10

'he cooks most nights'

you lost my sympathy right there Envy

Ok, perhaps I am being a bit unfair, the packet says 20 mins though, and my tummy was rumbling.

It doesn't normally take half an hour to hear an oven does it?

Mine is about 10 min

Whatamessiamin · 28/07/2014 21:20

I totally understand I have exactly the same problem. To make matters worse my partner is a trained chef but he faffs around so much when cookibg that we only eat around ten - I get home at 6 the latest!

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 28/07/2014 21:25

I want a vege burger Envy

WarblingOyster · 28/07/2014 22:35

I love veggie burgers.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2014 22:38

That's not even cooking, how on earth did it take him so long?

Unless like me he put the chips in and forgot to light the oven Blush

lavenderhoney · 28/07/2014 22:49

He must have been on mn and forgot to turn on the oven.

And that's not cooking! That's warming stuff up. But I come from a background of if its too easy, you're slacking:)

Have some toast whilst you're waiting. Any left over, you can have chip sandwich:) with lots of butter and salt:)

ILovedYouYesterday · 28/07/2014 22:56

It could easily take my DH that long to make a bacon buttie!

He faffs around. I have no idea what he does. Just wanders aimlessly around moving things from one place to another and achieving nothing!

Usually pops to check emails at some point which inevitably means some need immediate answering.

He used to do half the cooking but I got so fed up of it that I do most of it now. I don't mind as he can/will cook if I can't/won't and he does plenty of other stuff, including washing up after I cook, so I am happy to do it as I can have something on the table in half the time and don't have it burnt, undercooked or half the meal ready before the rest!

I reckon your DH was farting around doing naff all till 8.30 then remembered he'd said he'd cook!

Whatamessiamin · 29/07/2014 07:03

Iloved I think you're married to mine lol.

wowfudge · 29/07/2014 07:06

Just be grateful someone made a meal for you. Not bitter at all!

MelanieCheeks · 29/07/2014 07:38

Does that include thinking time? Unless you have a menu plan, he probabaly spent half an hour opeing all the kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer doors, and standing going "Hmmmmmm".

iloveithere · 29/07/2014 07:45

Possibly, Melanie, possiblySmile. Its ok, not a major marital problem, I was just hungry and

Ten mins to hear my oven, twenty (five) to cook chips and burgers.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/07/2014 08:07

Heat!

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2014 09:06

Sil took one and a half hours to make pasta the other night and it wasn't very nice! I could have actually made the pasta itself as well in that time, no idea what she was doing

iloveithere · 29/07/2014 20:38

Tonight's dinner, curry, done in the slow cooker. Delicious.and served at a reasonable time.
He is totally forgiven.

FryOneFatManic · 29/07/2014 20:56

Oven chips - 5 mins to heat the oven then cook for 5 mins longer than stated on packet.

I can make a crackingly good mac n cheese in about an hour, including time in the oven to cook and crispy crunchy topping.

Glad your curry made up for it, OP.
