About dogs and their owners

Mainly the dogs round here, primarily yappy little terriers who get shut outside all day and all night and who do their vague attempt at barking

This one dog has been going for 90mins now and no signs of anyone taking it in. Another a few houses down gets shut out at lunch time on a Saturday and not taken in until dinner time and barks all the time it's out

AIBU to put some sedatives into some meat and throw it in the gardens of these dogs? Failing that call the RSPCA saying I suspect some dogs have been abandoned?

I would talk to the owners but I can't pin point the house the animals belong to. Why are so many dog owners so inconsiderate? How can you not know if your dog is a yapper?

I wonder if any of the barkers owners know what a racket their dog makes if they are left. We asked out neighbour to let us know, but she has never heard anything.

I wouldn't bother reporting anything to the RSPCA, as long as there's water and shelter they won't act. My SiL has 4 mastiffs living in a shed in the garden next door.

Of course you can't poison the dogs.

Teddybeau1988 · 27/07/2014 22:22

Sorry, didn't read your post properly OP, I though said dogs were indoors, not locked out in their gardens.

The owners probably only out them outside to get a break from the yapping indoors

Some nervous dogs are yappers. We have a rescue terrier that barks at the slightest noise, but we try not to leave her to yap too long. I appreciate it's annoying, but some dogs need a few minutes outside to bark annoyingly. Having said that, from your OP, I'd get pissed off after 90 mins' barking, too.

Its a small dog thing, we have 3 spaniels, 4 collies, a lab and an Alsatian and they only bark when they hear people coming up and near their kennels.

my neighbor's dog yaps like mad all day long he attacks the fence when he knows someone is in the garden and yaps some more i threw water at the damm thing the other day and im considering getting a water thingy to squirt the teeth that keep flailing through the fence!! everyone thinks its hilarious the dog is a terrier type tiny and "non threatening" the damm thing is vicious!

Moodymmai · 28/07/2014 19:57

you could buy a dog trainer. It's supposed to train dogs to control their barking

FloozeyLoozey · 28/07/2014 20:00

Dog owners are generally very selfish and think the world revolves around them and their mutts.

MyFairyKing · 28/07/2014 20:01

The RSPCA won't do anything.

MyFairyKing · 28/07/2014 20:03

Floozey is obviously trying to play MN doggy bingo. Shall I go next? I can't even walk outside my front door without walking through piles of dog poo up to my knees.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 28/07/2014 20:27

It is frustrating. My next door neighbour's dog used to bark persistently when he heard us in the garden and he was home alone.

There wasn't much I could do but avoid the garden which was hard as I have three small kids and a dog of my own. Fortunately the dog next door no longer barks, he grew out of it.

Have you considered buying chewy dog treats and lobbing them over the fence to give them something else to do?

I agree it would be better if the owners took some responsibility for them but if you cannot find them and they seem oblivious to their dog's behaviour I don't see how you would make that happen, and you are obviously annoyed.

We have 2 sets of people, 3 and 4 doors up, who have 'outside' dogs.......5 of them. They live in the garden and the open conservatory. They bark ALL day at anything and everything......but because they have food, water and shelter we have to put up with it. And 2 belong to a local policeman!!
