Wearing white to a wedding reception

A quickie as I'm in a rush to get ready....

I'm almost 3 weeks post birth, going to a wedding reception tonight. It looks like the only dress I'll fit in is a white maxi with big flowers all over. Would I be unreasonable to wear it? Should I try and cobble something else together?

I'm not very organised I know!

Unfortunately I'm friends with the groom not the bride so can't canvass her opinion.

Are the big flowers a different colour? If so then don't even think twice, you'll be fine.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 27/07/2014 18:56

It's hardly bridal! I don't see any problem with it.

AllTheUsernamesAreTaken · 27/07/2014 18:56

I'd say that's fine as there's lots of colour on it. Have a good night

goodbyeyellowbrickroad · 27/07/2014 18:56

I'd say its fine to wear. Not at all bridal with the floral pattern all over it. Have fun!

Thefishewife · 27/07/2014 18:56

No never white at a wedding unless they have said it's ok and never any bright colours to a funeral unless they have said other wise

You will upset the bride

Mostlyjustaluker · 27/07/2014 18:57

It looks fine to me.

weegiemum · 27/07/2014 18:57

Looks great! Amazing you feel you can go only 3 weeks on - well done!
If you're still bleeding, be careful of sitting down (voice of experience!).

And congratulations on your new dc :)

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 27/07/2014 18:58

It's white with a pattern, I don't see any problem with it. If it's the only thing that fits then I'm sure they'd prefer it to the alternative Grin

Pheonixisrising · 27/07/2014 18:58

that's lovely , go for it !

MuttonCadet · 27/07/2014 18:59

Sorry, I'm on the iPad app and can't see pictures.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 27/07/2014 18:59

I'm wearing a white top at a wedding next Saturday. It's not bridal.

Wear it. It's summer!

Spinaroo · 27/07/2014 19:00

Yes- it's lovely! Enjoy!

AlpacaYourThings · 27/07/2014 19:02

Honestly go for it! Have fun Smile

Vida · 27/07/2014 19:02

That's a nice dress. And fine to wear - 'don't wear white to a wedding' means don't wear a solely white dress, not 'don't wear any white whatsoever on your person'!

If you asked me to describe that dress I would say 'floral patterned' not 'white' - you'll be fine. Enjoy yourself!

FishWithABicycle · 27/07/2014 19:02

that photo shows that it's fine - not bridal at all.

eurochick · 27/07/2014 19:06

It's absolutely fine. The dress is floral not white white.

crazykat · 27/07/2014 19:08

As long as its got lots of colour it'll be fine.

If it were white with white flowers all over or the flowers were tiny then maybe not.

IMO a patterned dress with a white or black background is fine for a wedding. Plus its the evening reception so there's a bit more lee way in what you wear. My cousin changed into a gorgeous black evening dress at my wedding and looked fab.

It would be different if it were a long flowing white dress but it sounds like a flower patterned maxi dress with a white background.

AuntieStella · 27/07/2014 19:13

I wouldn't call that a white dress (unless you've draped it misleadingly).

It's a floral (where the background is white) and therefore fine.

I would avoid white accessories though!

fifi669 · 27/07/2014 20:03

I'm a jeans and t shirt person so wouldn't know how to accessorise! I tried on my other 3 dresses (all I own) I've worn for other occasions and I have a boob malfunction so I'm glad IANBU!

It's fine!

Wantsunshine · 27/07/2014 20:12

That's a floral dress just the flowers on a white background. The bride would have to be batshit crazy to have an issue with it.

FryOneFatManic · 27/07/2014 20:16

We went to a wedding yesterday (it was lovely btw).

DD wore a tightish midi dress with blue and purple flowers on a white background with some black highlights. She looked fab but not at all bridal. And in no way detracted from the bride who looked gorgeous.

The dress in your pic looks fine.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/07/2014 20:30

That dress is completely fine. The white is just a backdrop to the print. Enjoy the reception op.

MamaLazarou · 27/07/2014 20:35

Yes, it's absolutely fine. Have a lovely time!
