to switch ADs so late into my pregnancy

So I have mulled this over for MONTHS now and have finally decided I really want to BF dc2 as I did with my ds. I'm nearly 30 weeks pregnant and will be switching from Venlafaxine to sertraline.

My husband and mum are super cagey about it because of how well I've been doing. Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?

I've not switched during pregnancy, but have you talked to your care providers about it? Have you taken sertraline before? I got on well with it, but venal fanzine sent me up the wall with anxiety - I'd be more careful of switching if you have no experience of taking it before.

Thank you. Yes my psychiatrist has devised a little switchover plan for me. I took sertraline for a few months when I was BFing ds and I got on ok with it. I can't really remember why I switched. I think it was because It has less effect on sleep.

Cheeky Bump.
Really want to know if anyone has experienced something like this.

I haven't, but 1) venlafaxine is meant to be awful to come off, are you sure that's worse than your sleep problems? 2) You can BF on venlafaxine, I think they need to monitor your baby at first though. 3) BFing is not more important than avoiding PPD, I would not ever switch working ADs for that. But if venlafaxine is getting on your tits anyway and you're willing to deal with tapering off then that's different.

Thanks for your reply but it's not about the sleep problems it's because I want to breastfeed. I'm not allowed to breastfeed on venlafaxine. I know some consultants allow it but not mine.

I have no experience of switching AD's when pregnant but I was supposed to decrease the dosage of the ones I was on from about 34 weeks.

Unfortunately DS2 had other ideas and I got Pre-Eclampsia and ended up being born at 32 weeks.

If you are going to do it I would advise doing it sooner rather than later just in case your baby decides to come early.

I wasn't allowed to BF on the AD's I was on either but tbh I wouldn't have changed something that I was stable on in order to BF. Thats just me though and totally understand why you want to.

Oh no I hope everything was ok. That's the last thing anyone expects to happen.

BF is such a massive deal to me. More massive than is ever realised. I wish they would just let me on my current meds tbh. I don't want to BF for an extended period of time, even If it's just 4 weeks or something. I really enjoyed it last time :(
