Obviously with an email. DD1's birthday is next month, so over the course of the last few weeks I have had my DF and DFIL etc asking what they could get her. I have amassed a small list of things I know she would love and things she has specified and saved it on my Amazon wishlist.

So AIBU to send them an email along the lines of Hi, this is divergentdd1 birthday wishlist - please feel free to choose anything from here as she would love any of it. Much love etc

And that way we won't (hopefully) get double presents like the last two years

We use Amazon wishlists for birthdays and Christmas, with a note below saying that they obviously can buy from anywhere or choose something else if they prefer but if they do please delete it from the wishlist or tell me so I can, to avoid duplicates.

It works really well. I ask DD to add to it prior to the key dates. Both me and DH have them now too - many friends, esp those with children do too.

My family much prefer it.

YANBU to send them it but I might go with 'if you need ideas, please feel free to use any of these though DD will love anything you get her.'

We also use amazon wishlists for b'days and xmas. It has made it easier for everyone.

I think that is a good idea if they have asked you to give them ideas.

It's not unreasonable; I think birthdays and other events are probably one of the main reasons that wish lists, wedding lists and such were created in the first place. However I suppose you might wish to make sure that there aren't items exceeding certain value on that list just to avoid being seen as greedy and unreasonable. Or make it clear that there are no expectations attached to the list.

DH has shopped for my birthday from my Amazon wish list. There's lots of different stuff on there - I don't know what he's chosen so it's still a surprise.

Yeah I am all over amazon wish lists! So much easier.

I do it at Christmas for me, my husband does one & I stick a few things on for the kids. My mother in law absolutely loves us doing them, it's easier for her & for some family members that live all over the place.

I use them for the DCs' birthdays/Xmas, I feel a bit guilty but it's so much easier for the older relatives.

My dp goes on my wish list all the time to choose me stuff. I once told him about a book I'd been looking at he didn't seem to be listening, of was delivered a few days later. He actually opened amazon on my phone to see if it was still on screen, luckily it was.

Is it your wishlist or hers? I've got a separate one for DS. And absolutely fine btw.

After I had one Christmas where my DH brought me a few gifts that other people also got me because he told everyone what I wanted & then brought it all, I always use a wish list. With the standard proviso of its only a suggestion etc.

wishlists are great - we only send the link when requested and it means when my DD's have been wanted bits of a set you could add all the little bits. I like buying from them too, i find i'm happy to buy something which needs other things to go with it as you can see if they've been bought.

We do this. We only send it to close family who've asked for ideas and always with the caveat 'feel free to get something entirely different'. I usually just add things as I see them through the year.

I love them - so convenient and you know you are getting the things that someone wants.

It's fine, they asked you for suggestions and it is easy for them to click on link and purchase.

Absolutely fine, so long as people have asked for suggestions. Much better than having to coordinate it yourself and risking duplicates.

DH's Amazon wish list birthday shopping was a great success

I really like www.whattogive.com for this purpose. It's not tied to any shop although you can link to them. It also allows you to be a bit more vague so you can describe things and allow people find them somewhere convenient.

I think you'd only be unreasonable to send it unsolicited.

Another cheer for the Amazon wishlist! When family members ask for suggestions for Christmas/birthday gifts for me I used to get immediate mind blank, but now I pop things on there throughout the year, as they occur to me, and send the link to those who ask. I love the fact that the item disappears from the list when someone has bought it - no duplicate presents for me!
