Away on holiday. staying in fantastic family run hotel and having a great time.

This evening - put 3 yr old dd to bed in bottom bunk, Sat down on edge to read story (as I've been doing all week) and wooden support snaps! We went to tell hotel straight away and they said they don't see how it could happen like that. It honestly did and I'm not hugely fat (just a little plump).

Dh says we've told them and that should be the end of it But I feel we should offer to make a contribution to a new bed before we're asked. We didn't do anything wrong but it still broke while I was sitting on it and I'm sure they hear excuses like this all the time.

You weren't jumping up and down on the bed so I would say your DH is right. You've informed them and apologised but the bed should e strong enough for the activity you describe! It may just be a knackered bed!!

I fell through the top bunk on holiday once. We didn't once think to offer a contribution - they should have checked the equipment was fit for purpose!
