or overly cynical about the Tulisa trial

The trial has collapsed, the Judge threw the case out due to the lies told by the journalist Mazir Mahmood, the infamous 'fake sheik'.

Tulisa fell for the 'sting' which involved her being flown to Las Vegas and promised a starring role in a 'Slumdog Millionaire' type film alongside a star of the standing of Leonardo DiCaprio.

I'm struggling with the concept that Tulisa was niave enough to believe this, bearing in mind she has NO acting experience whatsoever. AIBU?

YABU -lots of singers cross over into acting.

I don't for one minute think it was an isolated situation but that doesn't mean that a trial should continue if the legal grounds aren't sound.

Although I'm a bit confused as to why the judge can throw it out in this situation rather than letting the jury form a conclusion from the evidence?

CalamityKate1 · 21/07/2014 21:17

She might well have no acting experience but she clearly thinks quite a lot of herself. I expect she was very easy to dupe into believing that someone had spotted her "talent".

I agree. She's always struck me as pretty arrogant. And I refuse to believe that ANYONE actually nicknamed her 'The Female Boss'. That was like Rimmer in Red Dwarf saying that kids at school used to call him 'Ace'.

Her face looks very odd these days, the puffy lips are almost comical.

I met her once when she was still a small fry in the fame game. She was quite pleasant and down to earth then.

I think the journalist was very shady. I don't particularly like Tulisa but no one deserves to be set up like that.

emotionsecho · 21/07/2014 21:43

Lougle I am not questioning the legalities of throwing out the case, probably on the grounds of entrapment which is illegal in the UK, I personally dislike these fake sheik 'stings' for front page stories.

My surprise/cynicism is directed at those who fall for these stings. Tulisa presents herself as pretty 'street' smart, yet she states she fully believed that she would be the 'star' in a major Hollywood movie opposite the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, even though she is not an actress, has no acting experience, and is virtually unknown outside of the UK.

I agree. High time he was pulled up for his 'stings'. This is just the Sun on Sunday acting like the NotW all over again. It seems to be a corporate problem.

emotionsecho · 21/07/2014 21:48

NoArmani I too think the journalist is shady and think these 'fake sheik' stings are pathetic, but I cannot understand how people fall for them they seem to have more holes in them than an old pair of underpants. Maybe I'm overly cynical but if someone said that kind of thing to me I would be very much of the "yeah right, who are you really?" school of thought.

I just thought Tulisa would have had a better bullshit radar.

The journalist has been suspended pending an investigation by the Sun on Sunday.

Tulisa has hardly shown herself to be a smart woman based on her past activities.

So yes I do believe she was stupid enough to fall for this!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 21/07/2014 22:18

It reminds me of poor old George Michael and the toilet incident. Setting people up like that is low.

Chippednailvarnish · 21/07/2014 22:23

According to IMDB she's been in four films...

Nicknacky · 21/07/2014 22:24

I think she looks like Natalie Imbruglia now.

I think it's telling that her friend admitted supplying that drugs, but obviously that's been chucked out now.

Gruntled · 21/07/2014 22:27

I've seen one. Straight-to-video, mobile phone!

Chippednailvarnish · 21/07/2014 22:30

Straight -to-poundshop more like!

emotionsecho · 21/07/2014 22:40

I stand corrected then ChippedGrin

Who and what happened. (Wonders off to google)

Nokidsnoproblem · 21/07/2014 23:36

I do feel bad for her as she was set up.

Saying that, I am very surprised that she got conned like that as you would think she would be smarter than that as this level in the fame game.

emotionsecho · 21/07/2014 23:45

Nokids that's what I think, Tulisa must have met a few sharks within the music industry I would have thought she would have had no trouble spotting a fake sheik (or movie mogul) a mile off.
