To think giving DD this phone would be a good thing?

DH and I run a business, and have company phones. long story short someone left, and DD(15) said she will work for us in the summer if she got the iPhone 5 and gave her 4S to the company. I think it's okay, as she needs to have nice things now and again, and the company phone will only be used when we go away (so maybe 3 weeks of a year).
DH thinks it would be a bad idea, as he thinks it would teach DD to be 'entitled'. AIBU to think 'f it give her the phone' ?
She is going to work for us over the summer, which is a lot of boring work, when she could be having fun, so I think she should have it.

she works for it and gets it at the end of the summer then yes

She gets it then is expected to work - wont work

She wants the money, and has said so. She's reliable, and I don't believe she would do that. She wants money for her school trip to South Africa next year.

Totally agree with Jersey

If the phone is her 'wages' then she should get it after she's done the work

If not, forget the phone and pay her a wage.

WorraLiberty · 19/07/2014 17:08

Wait...so she's asking for wages and an iphone 5??

mumtoateen · 19/07/2014 17:10

The iPhone is not going to be bought new. It is an old company phone.
But if she did the work and she wanted an iPhone, then yes she would get paid a wage and in a special circumstance bought the phone.
However, she is trading her 4S for the 5.

Also should add, 1 month left on contract, then the phone becomes ours.

How many hours will she be working and what will she be doing?

mumtoateen · 19/07/2014 17:14

Around 8 hours a day for 3 days a week, and just filing and checking files, but we need it done, as we are short staffed and don't want to bring in another trainee.

So she is trading/upgrading her own iPhone 4s for a company iphone 5? Therefore no outlay?
I think that sounds like a nice thing to do if she has worked hard at school and is generally well behaved regardless of if she is prepared to work over the summer. Will she be getting wages as well? If not, I think just swapping iPhones is bit unfair. I new member of staff isn't going to "need" an iphone 5 I assume. They will have their own personal phone surely.

mumtoateen · 19/07/2014 17:21

They all have phones, and the company phone is just to cut down landlines bills. The man who left was a partner so got to take it home.
She's achieved brilliant grades, and will be getting paid £4.50 an hour, simply because we need her to do the work.

Sounds very fair to me.
I think your dh is being mean.
I would want my dc to enjoy the iphone they wanted if it was just there doing nothing and they suggested swapping.
I wouldn't buy one however.
