Don't think IABU :D

I have an a blinky flashy thing at the top of my screen (and now at the side of my screen simultaneously) telling me to vote no on 18 September in the Scottish independence referendum. This actually pisses me off a bit because:

  1. I get the impression that is the Mumsnet official position, which shouldn't amaze me as MN is fairly Labour but is annoying
  1. My decision is not swayed by blinky flashy things, add more kittens and you might have me
  1. It's 2am and everything is annoying me
  1. I followed the link and it is shite
  1. The last time I made a political decision at 2am was two years ago after knocking at some random's window and getting him to sell me alcohol. In retrospect that was an error on multiple levels

Am I being unreasonable or should I just deal?

You are being entirely reasonable.

Can you temporarily alter your MN profile so that it doesn´t know you´re in Scotland?

shockinglybadteacher · 19/07/2014 02:20

Er, that should be "and" not "or" ;)

Happythanks! I think I will try that.

I'd much rather have the prawn and orange tagine ad than multiple No things. At least prawn and orange is something I hadn't thought about before.

I have an ad for a buggy. My youngest has almost completely outgrown a buggy so I´m finding the ad mildly inappropriate, nothing more. I should consider myself lucky!

Prawn and orange tagine sounds foul? A prawn doesn´t need to be stewed? And I thought Arabic cooking didn´t include shellfish? This information is giving me the brain equivalent of feeding my kids bright blue Slush Puppy before bedtime.

shockinglybadteacher · 19/07/2014 02:39

The pic actually makes it look quite tasty! There's something about the concept of tagine I sort of struggle with though. It's like a stew with any bastard chucking things in. Perhaps this is why we have a prawn/orange combo Grin I have to say, they wouldn't occur to me as two things which would go well together.

RE blue slush puppy - there needs to be a study about how hyper that makes children! I have a theory, which may be disproven by research, that the blue variety as opposed to the red variety is far more dangerous.

Ah, you get it too. Sort of glad it's not just me. It's not really an MN "official position", it's just paid-for (by the taxes of everyone in the UK) advertising.

But it is fucking irritating.

shockinglybadteacher · 19/07/2014 02:47

Aha. OldLadyKnows, you just explained a lot of things for me, thank you! What you said about the orange was spot on as well. (Er, not the orange in the tagine....)

I will go and post in that thread, it might relieve my feelings!

So is it just people in Scotland (or whose ISPs say they're in Scotland, mine sometimes puts me in Belfast, I'm mostly in Portree these days, according to my iPad [I'm not in either of those places]) who see these ads?

londonrach · 19/07/2014 08:22

I have penguins at the top....

shockinglybadteacher · 19/07/2014 08:40

Mine is a big plane now, which is an improvement. The side is BRACHYCEPHALY CLINIC - Get Treatment for your Baby, which is slightly weird but better than the You Decide pish.

My ads are changing now, was SEAT cars, now I have the tagine one I hadn't seen before! Grin Glad there's no more gvt propaganda though.

chocolatemademefat · 19/07/2014 18:34

I don't have the blinky flashy thing and I'm in scotland. I have the prawn tagine thing which is much better.

Still, the blinky flashy thing would be a change from the commonwealth games stuff that's crammed into every newspaper. Hate, hate, hate sport and definately not looking forward to getting across glasgow while the games are on.

LastTango · 19/07/2014 18:40

I have Ad Blocker - I don't GET any ads Grin

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 19/07/2014 18:46

I'm now only getting the irritating one on the thread I linked above. Which is a bit odd, because if you're looking at that thread, you already know about the gvt "tool". Confused

shockinglybadteacher · 20/07/2014 05:25

chocolate I feel your pain. Glasgow's a nightmare to travel through at the best of times and the Commonwealth Games won't improve it.
