to not feel like a VIP (Next Sale)

VacantExpression · 16/07/2014 18:40

got what I think is the first slot for the online sale, from 6pm.

Logged on at 6:01, checked out by 6:05. (saddo that I am had my wish list already written out so was only a quick case of data-inputting).

21 of my 31 required items sold out. How can this be? Can they really have sold quite that much in that time? Broad spread of items; kids, ladies, home. Hoe many people were ordering hand towels FFS?

Tbh next sale us misleading. They tend to have one or so I. That price. My ex used to work for them. Sale time they bring stuff in. Buyer beware....

hairypaws · 16/07/2014 18:43

I had a 5pm slot and bought loads. I've found previously that any time after that and you're on to a loser.

catsmother · 16/07/2014 19:04

I can well believe they only have a handful of decent sale items available .... I've been a so-called VIP for years (don't know why really 'cos I don't really buy very much from them especially in the last few years) and have never really found anything in the sale I really want bar a couple of pairs of boots for DD. It's obvious they shove in a load of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day before - you only have to look at the jumble sale in the actual stores to see that.

WaitMonkey · 16/07/2014 19:44

That's rubbish. 5pm was the first slot though. I had one and still didn't get everything I wanted. Did get a good lot though.

iamdivergent · 16/07/2014 19:49

I don't even get an invite even though I order from them frequently Hmm

VacantExpression · 17/07/2014 09:10

Aha- I logged in a few minutes after getting my text and the only slots were from 6 so I assumed that was the first. Perhaps I'm not VIP enough to get the first slots- my spending in Next has dropped dramatically in the last couple of years.
Glad to know its not just me getting annoyed though, thanks!

I don't understand why people go mad for next sales? It's cheap as chips as it is most of the sale stuff is last season's tat that no one wanted.

anchovies · 17/07/2014 09:23

I got 5pm and got almost everything off my list, just to check, you are writing down the codes before hand then doing the quick shop? I tend to buy a lot of branded stuff that the dcs wouldn't get unless it's half price. Oh and home stuff, curtains etc. I wouldn't call it last season's tat!

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 17/07/2014 09:25

I had a 5pm slot, only got 1/3 that was on my list from the preview. I did manage to get my dd a superdry top for her birthday that I'm happy about though.

I do that but still never get much of what I want clothes wise! I find you're more likely to get the stuff which was very over priced expensive to begin with. In the last few years we've been doing a lot of home improvements and I've got some absolute bargains by waiting for the Next sale as you can guarantee things are at least half the catalogue price. I've had light fittings, appliances, garden furniture etc. Definitely not "last season's tat" more stuff they priced unrealistically.

Notso · 17/07/2014 09:48

That's why I don't like it though, it doesn't feel like a bargain because it ends up being reduced to the price I feel it's worth in the first place.
PIL have loads of Next furniture and home stuff from various sales. I am amazed at how much they have paid for the 'sale' prices.

I bought a PVC tablecloth once that was reduced to a fiver, then saw virtually the same one in Dunelm Mill for less at full price.

Sirzy · 17/07/2014 09:52

I had a 5pm slot and got everything I wanted except one lot of PJs.

Plenty of the stuff was the seasons stuff or last Autumn/Winters stuff

WaitMonkey · 17/07/2014 14:26

I'm just waiting for the emails, saying my ordered stuff has gone out of stock. I always loose at least a couple of thing's I've ordered in the sale. Sad

Thomyorke · 17/07/2014 14:44

I was a first VIP for years, then it stopped and I got the next day or a few hours later for a while. Closed account DP opened one and been a VIP since but have been disappointed in the last few but found this one quite good.

RosiePosiePing · 17/07/2014 15:25

I had a 9pm slot and got 1 dress I wanted for DD2.

The dress I wanted for me was sold out but still showing on the full price website (with a wait of 2 weeks delivery). This morning I decided I still wanted it, even at full price but that's now showing sold out too Sad.

Wish I'd never had the VIP invite!

101handbags · 17/07/2014 16:21

I logged on at about 6.45pm and got 13 items for my 3 year old nephew for 60. I only use the sales to get things for him - lots of jeans, chinos, cargo trousers, socks, plain t shirts. There was an awful lot of rubbish in there, mind you.

shebird · 17/07/2014 16:50

Logged on this morning and had a quick look, everything was either sold out in the size I wanted or had a estimated delivery weeks away. I think the womenswear is very uninspiring anyhow just seems to be the same things each season with different patterns. Fab for kids clothes though.

buddles · 17/07/2014 17:04

Dammit I could book a slot from 7pm yesterday. So there was earlier? No wonder my wish list was mainly sold out Sad

poohbunny · 17/07/2014 17:20

If it's any consolation M&S are equally bad - I ordered a load of stuff in their online sale just after Christmas. The order was accepted etc and I received a confirmation email. Then the 'sorry' email arrived a few days later (at the point I was expecting my parcels) saying that nearly everything I'd ordered was out of stock. I fired off an email and they explained that their system wasn't a 'live' system so they couldn't check stock levels until the order was processed later!!!! I was really shocked, this is M&S after all (I understand they have now updated their systems but have yet to try them again). Another thing they do is send you emails of stuff they think you will like - they are very often right - I click on the image and all the sizes are out of stock except maybe a size 8 -that really winds me up. Some of these companies need to realise how much they can annoy their customers who may not return to them. Sorry, this has turned into an M&S rant :-0

Numanoid · 17/07/2014 17:21

I used to work for Next, and their sale isn't as good as it seems. Don't know how much I can say on here though, would I get into trouble for posting 'trade secrets' regarding how it works?

CeliaFate · 17/07/2014 17:23

I got a half price rug so I'm chuffed with that. The clothes are beginning to pick up again imho, but there was nothing I had to have.

member · 17/07/2014 17:27

I doubt you'd be the first to do so Numanoid. If you didn't sign some sort of contract pledging to keep all things Next-related secret upon leaving, then I think you'll be ok Wink If in doubt, add allegedly.

OhTheDrama · 17/07/2014 17:46

I had a 5pm slot yesterday, got quite a lot of what I wanted from my list but found that the homeware things I wanted had gone in seconds! So pleased I managed to get a half price joules dress for a wedding and lots of maternity clothes.

Southpaws · 17/07/2014 18:05

I got a 5pm slot and got everything I wanted apart from some Pj's for dd and a pair of converse for DH. I did log on to book my slot about ten seconds after I got the text to say slots were available.
At 6pm I would imagine most of the nicer kid's stuff and homeware would be gone.
