I went to view a property over the weekend (sealed offer bidding) and was told that it would be the only open day and that if I am interested, I have to put in a final offer.
Put in an offer yesterday.
Today, I was told there is a higher offer than mine was asked if I would be interested in placing a higher bid.

I thought the whole purpose of sealed bid is to stop all this faffing around.
I bet the person with the highest bid was simply contacted by them to confirm if his or her offer still stands, and they then make calls around to see if anyone further bids.
And then pick the best bid at the end of the day.
Just so annoying!!!
Seems unethical.

I'm no expert but I thought that buying this way was offering an amount in an envelope by a particular date and they'd all be opened at the same time. with the highest tender given the opportunity to buy. If he pulls out, the next one down gets it.

I can't see the point of sealed bids if they open one or are they scamming you? and then ask someone else to raise their offer. If this is the way they do this sort of thing, why don't they just put the property into an open public auction?

I would follow up with the association of estate agents (or whatever they are called...there is one, can't remember the name).
