To think that parents should tell DC to BE QUIET

Sitting on a bus (long journey). The woman opposite me is texting or whatever on her phone while her two DC are making an unholy racket - screeching and yelling and running up and down the bus. You can see the annoyance on all the other passengers' faces - well, I can, she can't because she's completely ignoring the chaos the DC are causing. This has gone on for 20 minutes, getting steadily louder.

If you're the type of parent who lets, or even encourages, your DC to be as loud and 'expressive' as they like at home, fine. But surely in public you should (as I did with DD) tell them to behave decently? Especially on a long bus journey ffs. Maybe they're tired/bored but even if they are, surely mum should be doing SOMETHING not just ignoring them completely?!

The bus driver should tell her to control her kids or get off. It's a safety matter if they're running amok.

I got off the bus myself in the end and waited for the next one. I could NOT have put up with that for an hour.

I think we're a nation of non-complainers, we only grumble after the event.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you that you are being a miserable old boot, the kids are most likely unable to express themselves in other ways, and that mum's dog was probably run over that morning and she is organising the funeral on her phone.

I can't stand noisy/obnoxious kids. Or ones that keep stamping on your feet on the bus. Or wipe their snottery noses on you. Or eat stinky food next to you. Or spill their food/drink down/into your shopping bags. Or have screaming competitions (why do kids do that?).

My parents used to tell us 'we don't want to hear you aking a din, so nobody else does either'.
