To be fuming with bank re overdraft

Bank is messing us about. We have £500 pound overdraft on our joint current account. Got a letter last week for review and rang them and they renewed it, which is great as we have a couple of large bills this month plus it looks like the car is going to need some work. Checked online today and it has been taken off account, so now we are in an unauthorised overdraft plus one of the direct debits tomorrow now will not go out so we are now getting charges. Rang the bank straight away and spoke to a very nice lad who couldn't work out what's happened as it has definitely been approved. Checked tonight, still hasn't been sorted, if it isn't will have tight 7 weeks(just in time for school holidays!), after that we should be ok. Thankfully my dh has just started his 2nd job during the summer(his own business doing guided walks which in previous years brings in about £100 pounds a week)we were going to use that to make sure the overdraft was cleared by the end of september

Have you got a record of who you spoke to initially? It sounds like someone has just failed to press a button or update a record, but if you have a name, they might be more inclined to find out what has happened and refund you any charges you've incurred as a result. They should at least be able to see that someone accessed your record (not sure if this is still the case, but used to be) so that should add weight to your claim.

The lad I spoke to looked at my account and could see that it had been approved but that it had not been applied so it does look like a glitch somewhere at their end. I need to get it sorted as have large bills coming in this month and we need to eat

If they can see that it was approved, then they should admit their error, remove any charges and reimburse you for any fees that you incur. Did they offer to at least waive the charges that they are applying to your account?!

He said going to try to sort the charges out as it is their mistake, however this not first time we've had problems so I'll have to wait and see and if they do charge me argue it with them(I've been spoiling for a good fight!)
