to be annoyed at ebay dispatch times?

We're a low income family, we work hard, but generally skint. I do almost all of my clothes shopping for myself, DH and the DC on eBay.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed at how long it takes sellers to dispatch items. Examples:

Trouser I won for DD on June 14th dispatched on June 21st. Arrived around 3 days later.

Work shirts I won for DH purchased on June 30th dispatched yesterday.

School cardigans I won for DD on June 27th have been dispatched this morning.

Trainers purchased 24th still not been dispatched. Emailed seller, response was "Sorry, I've been at Glastonbury festival. Will post tomorrow. Sorry again" Hmm

I understand people are busy with work, children, life etc, but c'mon.

I get I'm particularly unlucky recently, but it's annoying me.

As you were Grin

YANBU

I always despatch items the same day or the next working day.

thebigfoo · 07/07/2014 19:47

Me too. All my recent sellers just don't seem to give a shit.

Well, I think you have to remember that in general they are just Joe Public, not companies with a reputation to keep up. Just assume an extra time for delivery, and your blood pressure will remain at an acceptable level.

YANBU.

I dispatch next working day by second class, I charge for second and this gives me the option to post the day after first class if I'm struggling to get to post office.

Zucker · 07/07/2014 19:52

Chances are though, these people you're buying from aren't a shop. The same "customer service" rules don't apply to ebay imho.

500smiles · 07/07/2014 19:53

YANBU a week between winning and the item being sent is UR

Mark their stars low and they might start to improve

Birdsgottafly · 07/07/2014 19:57

A seller should always state if they going to be away.
The private sellers I have bought goods from have always made it clear if they "only post on Tuesdays and Thursdays etc".

Leave in your comments "item as described, slow dispatch time".

I don't agree that "customer service doesn't apply to Ebay", Gumtree maybe, but Ebay has moderators, codes etc.

thebigfoo · 07/07/2014 19:57

I understand that they're not huge retail companies, but they all stated that dispatch time was within 3 working days. None of which did so.

I'm still waiting for something I won on 22 June. I've emailed the US seller twice with no response. Tomorrow is the last day of the delivery window and I've told her I'll be opening a case if it doesn't arrive tomorrow. She'll be getting a one star review too.

I accept that sometimes things get lost but there's no excuse for ignoring messages.

thebigfoo · 07/07/2014 20:10

Agree holly

If they lied about when they would send the stuff, then yanbu. I hate it when they put reasonable looking dispatch times but send it a while later because usually I'd have taken that into account when choosing what to bid on. So it annoys me that I chose them iyswim.

ElephantGoesToot · 07/07/2014 20:13

I end my auctions on Sunday nights, and mail out Monday as long as I've been paid. I think it's unreasonable to make people wait.

Buy my crap!

alemci · 07/07/2014 20:19

yanbu I will make an effort to post out the next day if buyer pays promptly. I want to be a reputable seller and offer a good service.

LoonvanBoon · 07/07/2014 20:46

YANBU but you have been very unlucky if this happens to you regularly. I buy on ebay a lot & items are generally posted within the specified time - 2/3 working days on average. I always post within a couple of working days when selling, too.

I did have one seller recently who informed me, after I'd won the auction, that she was on holiday in the US & would post on her return, which turned out to be in about 10 days time! I was very annoyed that she hadn't stated this in the listing, & opened a case when the item wasn't received within the expected time frame. Got it in the end & then gave positive feedback but commented on late despatch date.
