To think that Gordon Ramsey is abusive and shouldn't be allowed on telly?

Some channel is showing what appears to be a US version of "Hell's kitchen"
OMG! How is it ok that he's on air. It's not even funny. He's so outrageously offensive.
Do I just need to get a grip/ sense of humour.

Obviously I've changed channels btw.

Offensive how?

CoffeeTea103 · 01/07/2014 21:47

Yanbu, he is vile in the way he treats people. Why would he even want to project that image Confused

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/07/2014 21:53

offensive how?

By swearing and shouting at people, putting his face close to them and yelling and telling them they're fucking idiots because they've over/ undercooked a fillet of something or other.

It's Season 12 and has been going since 2005 but good to know you've finally decided to get outraged about it Grin

NoodleOodle · 01/07/2014 21:56

I enjoy watching his shows. I wouldn't take part in one either but, anyone who does surely shouldn't expect any different treatment or sympathy as his behaviour in these shows is well documented. The contestants will have considered the risks and implications and decided that it is worth it to them for whatever reason. No one gets any treatment from him that they haven't signed up for, maybe ten years ago they could claim ignorance but no way these days.

FangGirl · 01/07/2014 21:58

This is the first Hell's Kitchen I'm swerving. All the cooks are clones of the other years cooks and Ramsey's cosmetic procedures hurt my eyes. And his coarse language hurts my ears - I'm obviously getting old.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/07/2014 21:58

I can't stand him. I have no idea why he is so popular

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/07/2014 22:01

See, I don't mind a good swear.
But he's just so eye wateringly horrible.

BomberManIsAGirl · 01/07/2014 22:05

He seems like a nasty person. He's a smug git with it Confused I have no idea how anyone thinks he is TV worthy.

PeachyPinky · 01/07/2014 22:06

Just don't watch him, I don't.

Harrin · 01/07/2014 22:07

I agree but I was surprised when I saw him at Soccer Aid this year. He was genuinely lovely and polite and had a lot of time for fans whereas others Olly Murs were ignorant and just show offs

ouryve · 01/07/2014 22:08

I have a manky toenail with more developed social skills and personality than Gordon Ramsay.

NewtRipley · 01/07/2014 22:09

He makes himself look like a dick. We now know he's a dick.

I think people get a weird pleasure from watching breathtakingly rude people

And he's not such a great Businessman himself, which is why he has resorted to being a dick on TV for money

windchime · 01/07/2014 22:13

I met a him few times in RL. He is lovely. It is the production team who get him to behave like that. He has become a parody of himself. How else is GR expected to behave? I have always found him to be charming, kind and not at all sweary. It is all for the cameras.

I've never met him but I'd like to hazard a guess that it's all a TV act. One of the nicest people I've ever worked with it Tim Westwood off of radio. Lovely well spoken bloke, parents are ministers or something, but put him behind a microphone and he becomes this offensive gangsta character. I'd bet ramsay is the same because he told someone to Fuck off once and it's kind of stuck as a TV persona.

Hissy · 01/07/2014 22:15

GR on telly is a caricature of himself. It's for viewings.

In RL he's super polite, respectful, professional and utterly brilliant.

His cooking/food/recipes are faultless too.

Hells Kitchen's all about the ratings, it's Jerry Springer in an Apron.

Chefs do have to command the kitchen, it's precision to the second or the whole dish gets ruined. A chef's job is a tough one.

NoodleOodle · 01/07/2014 22:48

I worked with Westwood once and my brother warned me beforehand that he might be a bit obnoxious but he was sweet to me, much nicer than some of the other acts I've had the pleasure to dance for.

NoodleOodle · 01/07/2014 22:50

And, if I were working with a team of people who were supposed to be professional chefs, I would want to either shout or cry if their ineptitude in cooking eggs held up a service.

LeBearPolar · 02/07/2014 08:34

I have also met him - admittedly it was at a book signing, but he was still polite, interested, took the time to exchange a few words (rather than simply scrawl his name and wait for the next in line). He also complimented DS, saying what a lovely little boy he was - which of course won me over! Grin

worldgonecrazy · 02/07/2014 08:55

It's a TV persona. I have not met him, but looking at the extremely low turnover of staff in his restaurants, when any of them could go and work elsewhere, says a lot about how he leads his team.

NigellasDealer · 02/07/2014 08:59

yes I saw that last night too - fraid I switched it off pretty quick - GR is just making money for his family by being a caricature of a chef - fair play to him really.

Mrsjayy · 02/07/2014 09:07

Turned off his kitchen nightmares effing and jeffing roaring at people he is annoying he has got worse and his face fillers look ridiculous

Eminybob · 02/07/2014 09:08

It's an act, and the scenes where he's shouting and screaming are most likely scripted, with his "victims" playing along.

Same with his kitchen nightmares program, it even says at the end something about being filmed for dramatic effect.

Other programs that he does where he's more himself , eg the F word, he seems much more genuine and nice.

Mrsjayy · 02/07/2014 09:12

He was a patron for a scottish dissbility charity for years he went to their evrnts ran marathon s for them thourghly nice man justvhis tv persona is he is a screamy idiot, I just dont watch anymore
