I've just had it cleaned by a local company and it's sooooo shiny and lovely, WIBU to live off of microwave meals and takeaway so it stays so clean Wink

No I totally understand having just cleaned my oven. Why ruin it again. Mil took 2 months before she cooked in her new oven and only started as it was xmas.

HappyAgainOneDay · 01/07/2014 13:26

I've learned. Just cover anything you put into the oven ......

ThursdayLast · 01/07/2014 13:33

So incredibly NOT unreasonable

Titsalinabumsquash · 01/07/2014 13:35

I cleaned it last time using oven pride after Mumsnetters raving about it... I used the gloves... I started at 10am and was in A&E by lunchtime with severe chemicals burns. Blush

I wasn't brave enough to do it myself again.

Ooh I've always wondered about those companies, would u definitely recommend them then? My oven is in dire need of a proper clean, do they really make it like new?

Titsalinabumsquash · 01/07/2014 15:03

Yep, I've had mine done twice, this time I had ehem Blush melted a lunchbox to the top of it, so he managed to get all that off and all the grease from a joint of lamb DP cooked on a flat tray Confused so it all ran into the bottom of the oven. You couldn't see through the glass before. It looks like it's come from the shop today! It's 4 years old.

(I'm aware I'm making myself sound like a grubby woman but it's just the oven that was grim, I promise)

We have just had ours done and it is amazing. He even managed to get the grill pan sparkling. Don't know what they use but it's brill.

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 01/07/2014 15:51

My oven cleaning man is my personal hero.

And to be honest I see it as value for money.
I pay £40, so far its only been once every 9 months or so.

livelablove · 01/07/2014 16:30

Yanbu. titsalina I tried the oven pride too and as someone who works with cleaning chemicals I was a bit surprised how strong it is and quite dangerous in a home environment. But the most annoying thing about it is you can't use it on the glass oven door, surely that is one of the main parts you might want to clean.

livelablove I used the gloves and read everything over and over with the Oven Pride but it just melted the gloves and went all up my forearms, I will never forget the smell and sight of my skin bubbling as it was burning. Confused

I'm a bit of a slattern

I just give the inside a wipe with a damp cloth now and then Grin Blush

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 01/07/2014 17:49

Hi OP- i have oven pride in the cupboard but am hesitant to use it like other with all the dangerous stuff in it and worry about not getting it all rinsed off properly.

How much did your professional clean cost?

livelablove · 01/07/2014 17:49

Arggh that sounds awful titsalina Just the fumes made my eyes sting and it was difficult to ensure you didn't get any on you when scrubbing and wiping the oven. I definitely wouldn't get it again.

BackforGood · 01/07/2014 17:52

I am so tempted to get someone in.

How judgey are they of what they find Blush ?

Titsalinabumsquash · 01/07/2014 17:52

It was £45 for my double oven and hob, he takes it all apart and scrubs it clean with no chemicals and he did down the back and sides which were Blush GRIM! He was nice enough to say he's seen a lot worse.

I have one of those mini ovens which we use all the time. It never gets cleaned.
We are on number three as they eventually stop working or start to smoke us out. Throw away (ie. Put out for the scrap man) and get another....

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 01/07/2014 17:56

Thanks OP. going to look for a local company.

crazykat · 01/07/2014 17:58

I use oven pride but only on the racks and removable glass from the door. I use mr muscle for the rest.

After seeing how quickly the oven pride got the shelf from the grill sparkling there's no way I was scrubbing the rest of the oven with it.

firstchoice · 01/07/2014 18:13

I've got a range cooker.
NOT an Aga type, sadly but a Belling with 2 ovens (one has never been used) and a grill and on top 6 burners.
I was quoted £100, so I didn't book it. Sad
