Any tips to stop cats shitting on my lawn??

AIBU to ask if you clever people have any tips that work? I've never had a garden before so never had this problem. I'm not in any way a cat hater, and although I wish they would just poop in their owner's gardens, I accept that this is never going to happen! Hence asking for any suggestions.
Anyway - I was just doing some gardening and put my hand on a bit and I am so grossed out. The smell has gone up my nose and may never come out.

Yes get an electronic cat scarier, about £40, totally keeps cats out but you need an enclosed garden.

Only sure fire way to stop cats pooping in your garden is to get a cat.

I would second the noise emitting device - everything else has failed. You can buy one from the RSPB which is approved for use.

Bottles of water, lemon and orange peel, lion poo, pepper corns boiled in water and sprayed - none of it works.

My DM filled fizzy drink bottles with water and strategically placed them around the garden. The theory is cats see their own reflection and get scared off. DM swears the local cats no longer use her garden as a toilet, but she now has some interesting patterns on the grass where the bottles have been lying.

I really can recommend a pretend cat scarecrow thing bought off ebay they are cats with marbles for eyes you stick into the ground and I couldn't believed it worked , just ebay scare cats and they only about £6

silasramsbottom My mum did that too! But I think you have to keep moving the bottles about randomly to different places so that the cats don't get used to them.

We tend not to get them in our garden much as we have a high fence, but a few years ago one did take to visiting occasionally and I was concerned it might harass the guinea pig. My chosen method of deterring it was to rush out suddenly and run straight at it shouting and screaming and waving my arms about. That freaks them out and eventually it stopped visiting.

Are you sure it's a cat? Most cats will bury their poo. Could well be a fox. But the techniques to try to prevent it are the same though.

I suspect it's not cat. They tend to go for flower beds where they can dig and bury. More likely foxes. In which case I heard human male urine does the trick.

I used to keep a super soaker water gun ready to stop the little fuckers round here.
We've always had dogs but that never stopped them, neither did us getting our own cats. What worked for us was getting ninja chickens. We have four free ranging in our back garden and they are somewhat intolerant of everyone sharing the garden. Not a cat in sight. They even chase our own cat. Nutters.

A super soaker can help. Not advocating this method (at all!) but according to a friend, catching them in a cage and weeing on them stops the problem too (I think he is completely unhinged on the issue of cats in his garden though and goodness knows what the owners thought when the cat in question got home ).

Fox poo smells vaguely like matches, and is black in colour.

A water sprinkler with a motion sensor. My neighbours got one after years of frustration and they now have the only cat-free garden on our entire terrace.

Tarmac over the garden. They can then shite on your backyard.
