To think this is too long to wait for x ray results?

I can't walk well at all. I've hurt my ankle somehow and was x rayed last Thursday morning in the hospital...sent by my GP who had examined it on the Wed;

The hospital put the x ray on a fast report and the GP's surgery recieved results on Friday.

DAILY I call and am told to "Call tomorrow" in a sing song fucking voice. I just want to know what's wrong and get it fixed if possible...I can;t frigging walk! I could cry! I just got shirty for the first time and the receptionist said "Call back after two!" in her stupid sing song voice.

I said "Does that mean 2.05? 3.00? 600? I want a time" because they KEEP saying this and then telling me it's not done!

AIBU to complain or is this pretty normal?

Phone the practice manager and ask them to explain why you keep being fobbed off when the results have been with them since Friday.

MrsWinnibago · 19/06/2014 10:55

Do you think it's too long Shoulder? I do...but then I'm the one limping. If they don't have the results this afternoon I will do as you say.

How do you know the GP surgery have the results? Often the radiographer may tell you the result will be back within a day or two but that isn't always the case. Is the surgery still awaiting the report? After the image has been taken it has to be reviewed by a radiologist at the hospital and summarised before being sent to the GP, and this isn't always done as quickly as the radiographer says it will be!

Are they waiting for the GP to review it? It should be done within 24-48 hours of the GP receiving it.

If they have had the result for nearly a week and it hasn't been seen and actioned by the GP then I would ask to speak to the practice manager and ask why this is the case.

MrsWinnibago · 19/06/2014 11:18

Sidge because on Tuesday the receptionist told me they'd come in on the Friday! It was done on a fast report and was reviewed by the hospital on the same day and sent to GP who had it Friday.

They are waiting for GP to review it.

Well in that case it's ridiculous and I'd be speaking to the practice manager or the GP and asking why the delay.

Time to get politely stroppy!!

macdoodle · 19/06/2014 12:22

Are you sure its with the GP, IME its unheard of XR's to be reported and back any less than a week (and usually more) even the fast tracked ones.

Theodorous · 19/06/2014 13:51

Welcome to the NHS. In normal systems it would be reported immediately, only in the UK have I ever had to wait for an X-ray result.

HenriettaTurkey · 19/06/2014 13:54

It was for a bad hip. I was told it would be sent to the physio so she could then assess what treatment to give me.

This didn't happen, so I had a wasted physio session and there is a 3 week wait between appointments. Hip pain for 3 more weeks added to the 3 month physio referral wait. Not thrilled.

OldFarticus · 19/06/2014 14:00

Theo - exactly!
I had a chest x ray last week. Referred on the spot by GP and 20 minutes later was being x-rayed. GP called me with results that afternoon. And it was free.

(But I don't live in the UK!)

MrsWinnibago · 19/06/2014 14:06

I am phoning up in a minute. They said call back after 2 and if there's no result or help I will be asking for practice manager's details.

In UK, I had my x-ray results bank within 3 days (did have double puemonia though so it might have had something to do with it).

Nevertheless your GP should have reviewed your results Monday/Tuesday at the very latest. I would also call the practice manager - perhaps they are a few GP's down and relying on locums?

MrsWinnibago · 19/06/2014 14:33

Got some action at last. Apparently I have a calcaneal spur (extra bony thing growing in heel) due to some plantar whatsit which I had last year and it's probably trapped a nerve in my foot. Bloody buggery. Have to speak to GP on Monday to arrange something.

Speak to a GP on Monday? How will that happen, surely you will need to wait 3 weeks. If you do, why not combine getting decent care and a holiday, wouldn't cost much and at least it would be dealt with safely

capitalC · 20/06/2014 07:30

my dds xray results took 17 days to get back , but then they wouldnt tell me the results until i had written permission from her , she was 14 Confused turned out she had pneumonia when they finally told me .

Rowgtfc72 · 20/06/2014 07:51

Dh was told his results would be back in two weeks for a suspected broken thumb, its the norm round here.
