To think my gym shouldn't be so nosey

I'm a member at a gym, you have to book classes in advance to secure a place. I pay £40 a month for this membership . If you have to cancel a place they have started asking your reason . I find this annoying ...is this normal pratice??

Just tell them it is for personal reasons

Maybe there's a reason - my DH gym would let you postpone rather than cancel for some things (like illness or pg if you anticipate coming back)
Or if you move, they'd transfer your membership to another gym.

But yes, probably normal practice.

The op means cancel aerobics at 5 pm rather than cancel the whole membership.

Prob to stop people booking just in case then cancelling.

3 strikes and your out. Cancel or no show for three classes in a 4 week period then you can't book for a class for 4 weeks . You can still attend classes that are not full

It might be in case there are issues that they could address; ie last time you went to the class, the instructor/equipment/class wasn't what you expected.

I know at my gym there's been a big push on classes, I think quite a few are struggling for numbers so they've been actively trying to find out why there is such a low take-up on classes (mostly because they have them at stupid times IMO).

I don't know what it's like in your area, but gym membership costs seem to have gone down loads locally in recent years here. When I was looking around a few years ago it was around £30-£50 a month everywhere, and locked into a contract, now it's around £15-£20 a month including classes for the exact same thing.

I'd probably say "freakishly heavy period - blood is PUMPING out of me" next time they asked. See if they changed their policy.
