the fing slugs and snails that over night have ravished my sunflowers, basal plants and courgette plants in salt?????

Aaaarg, I am so angry. I am not a great gardener but I am proud of my little patch

They are the bane of our life too

Every morning and evening we go our with metal tongs and manually pick up all the slugs and snails we can find - we've been told if we do this regularly then the bigger ones won't have had time to lay eggs so next year there won't be so many [crosses fingers]

I also put down slug pellets daily too.

This seems to be working as this year we have veggie's growing and [drops down and faints] marigolds (slugs fave meal). Didn't do sunflowers this year as growing beans instead.

some archaeological dig in the futeure is going to postulate that we ate snails due to the concentrated pile of shells they will find.... mum disposed of the bodies in one spot in the garden.

I put out a pie tin of beer and the slugs/snails hit that instead of the plants. Every morning I have a fresh collection of dead slugs to dispose of, but my plants are not being attacked.

At least they are dying happy...

I attacked them big time last year and there aren't nearly as many this year, Anne. (In fact my NDN remarked in passing how she didn't think we had as big a slug problem as she'd expected this year. (Huh!)) You have to be active to get the little blighters but you can make a huge difference.

(I don't mind snails at all. That's not rational is it?)
