-to get effed off with people blocking my drive?!!

Sick to the back teeth of neighbours visitors parking right in front of my drive so I can't leave or get on my drive without knocking and 'asking' them to move their vehicles! They don't see a 'problem' with this and just expect me to be amicable and knock and they will 'happily' move for me!!

I, however, do not wish to KNOCK every time I want to leave/enter my own driveway, and don't see why I have to ask 'permission' to do so, if you know what I mean!!!!

I don't want to fall out with anyone but this is really effing me off!! The lazy f'ckers don't live here and can't be assed to park a bit further away and use the legs they were born with!! Can you tell I'm angry!! Angry

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? (Preferably amicably as I do have to live here).

Yeah, I reckon I would put a 'polite' sign up that says 'show you care, park elsewhere.' Or something like that.

Being blocked in is the most irritating thing ever. It is sooooooo rude.

Can you not make up some sort of emergency and go running round screaming "move it move it now!" Then politely mention the next day that you need access at all times as you don't want a repeat of 'running and screaming episode'

Do what I do and sit in your car beeping your horn repeatedly. They'll soon rush out.

We have major parking problems in our close so my patience is very thin if I can't get off my drive.

Hurr1cane I suggested DH do that last night when someone parked in front of our drive!!!! Grin He would have lost his voice before he found out the culprits though Sad

Huge sympathies from me too.

I left for work at 7.00am one morning and did not return until 10.00pm that evening and NDNs sis had blocked my drive. I was so tired, I just wanted to get home. I had to knock on the door, ask her to move, reverse to let her out, squeeze past her car to get on my drive. My veneer of civilisation nearly cracked.....

Ooh I'd go with hurr1cane's plan.

Screaming hissy fit because your mum / dad / nan / grandad / whoever has fallen and you need I get there to meet the ambulance. You would have to be out for a good few hours afterward so that could be tricky.

This would really piss me off "oh it's no problem if you knock I'll move the car for you" - well actually it is a problem now fuck off.

I'd knock and ask them to move.

Take the car out and drive it round the block.

Repeat every 5 minutes.

EVERY single time their visitors block you in. They'll soon get the message.

We have similar issues so I sympathise! Nearby neighbours are fine but visitors or people from further down the street are usually the culprits.

Doesn't help that I'm 7m pregnant and my first labour was fast and early so I really don't want the hassle of trying to locate the car owner and then wait for them to shift the car. I genuinely don't think I have the time for that!

Park your own car across your drive for a bit??

They might get into the habit of parking somewhere else and they might get the message??

Oh I hear you. Although I'm bloody envious that if you go to all the trouble of asking they'll deign to move for you. Mine have visitors standing chatting at the door with their car blocking my drive, and expect me to park somewhere else in the road (disabled, some days walking from the car to the front door is agony and they know this) and then I can come back to move my car to my own drive later when they've finished having their chat. Angry There was space everywhere, it would have taken thirty seconds to nip over and move her car two metres forward like a normal person.

Although this is the same neighbour who runs pissed as a newt around her garden at 2am shrieking "Yoohoo! Boring people!" at the windows of the surrounding houses on a weeknight. I don't think she gets the irony at all.

What about cones? Would that help?

Ha yes I should try the running round screaming 'emergency' tactic!! - let's hope it doesn't happen as I think I will total lose it and smash their effin car to pieces!

I have sat and beeped my horn, revved my engine, glared and been very short in my replies, and even blocked them in so they have to 'knock' on my door to get out! Like some of you, they'll reverse and let me out and then drive straight back in blocking the drive again!!! Some do get the message but others continue to do so.

Have good old fashioned manners totally disappeared? I would never dream of 'blocking' someones drive so they couldn't enter or leave - even in an emergency. FGS park where you're supposed too or leave your address, I'll come and block your drive and see how you like it!! Grrrrr

Is that legal? You'd get ticketed for that here. The police wouldn't automatically ticket you, but if the homeowner called the non-emergency police number and complained, they come around and ticket put a ticket on the car.

Always say you're only nipping to the shop or you'll be going out again in a minute.

Or when they say in that intensely annoying breezy way as if you are the inconvenience 'oh, it's ok. just knock and we'll move it' say 'no, it's not ok. Just don't park in front of my drive. I need access to it all the time and I'm disabled as you know. there are other places to park.'

I think on another thread someone said it was illegal to block you in but not to block you out. No idea if that's true.

Couldn't put cones out as they would have to be on my drive and probably have no impact. Can't put them in front of my drive as it then blocks the neighbour from driving out of their drive!!

Anyone know of life like looking parking tickets that have a 'not so amicable' message on them that I could place on their cars? Or would that make them even worse?!! Wink

We get this regularly with parents dropping kids off at the local school and it drives me mad!
best was when former neighbours were moving and told their removal men to park across my drive, leaving theirs free. Confused there was also plenty of space on the other side of the driveway, but no, they decided to block us in.

We tried going out and doing the "can you please move?" tactic. They said they would, but didn't actually do anything, so DP got into car, van reversed and let DP out. And then promptly moved back across the drive! DP drove around the block, came back and blew horn till van moved and drove into drive. Guess what happened next? Yup, two minutes later the van was back across my driveway.
Luckily, this was a major removals firm, so I phoned up head office and complained. They weren't impressed. Ten minutes later the van was driving away.

Yes did a bit of research and basically they aren't allowed to block you in your drive as you have a legal right to be able to access the highway, so parking in a way that you can't get off your drive is illegal.

But if you aren't on your drive then they aren't causing an obstruction to the highway so it's not illegal.

"Highway Code which in paragraph 243 requests that motorists "DO NOT PARK in front of an entrance to a property".

However when the Highway Code says 'do not' it's advisory and not law. When it says 'must not' it is law....

All very confusing right?

IIRC, If there's a dropped kerb at the end of your drive they legally can't block you in. It's within your rights to call the police.
