Why?? Surely there must be some new upcoming talent that could shake up the team

It's because he will never be able to do anything else. He lacks the intelligence to manage or coach.

JCDenton · 11/06/2014 19:55

He's really good, can play anywhere in attack (so the emergance of Sturridge sees him playing deeper rather than on the bench) and started playing for England very young (17). That's why. He's still only 28.

PopcornFrenzy · 11/06/2014 21:29

Is he balls any good, he doesn't fit in with the team anymore and gets too angry too quickly.

He should move aside to let the more talented youngsters have his place.

His disciplinary record is not particularly bad and has improved. He was last sent off in 2011.

That is the manager's decision. Rooney is still regularly picked because the England management believe he is better than the alternatives. Why should he retire from international football when the manager still wants him?

JCDenton · 11/06/2014 21:54

He 'isn't any good'? Really?

He has his faults, but there's no doubt that he is special player. It seems very popular to bash him at the moment but he's probably England's most gifted attacking player.

He will have to keep playing as long as he can. I mean he is hardly model material or Ambassador material. He could always sub in for Shrek I suppose.

inabeautifulplace · 11/06/2014 22:03

39 goals in 92 games. I think we'll get another 5 years out of him because he'll move back into central midfield. He'll be the only English player to have scored 50 international goals.

I think he's earned a crack at this World Cup. Given that we wouldn't have qualified without him! If Barkley had a few more seasons in him though...

FloozeyLoozey · 11/06/2014 22:49

I find him dull to watch. He doesn't play with any style, creativity or flair. Give me the south americans/Spaniards any day.

inabeautifulplace · 12/06/2014 00:13

Yup, those half volleys on the turn from about 45 yards. No style, creativity or flair in those at all Hmm

In between the prostitutes.......

FloozeyLoozey · 12/06/2014 00:33

Yes he can score goals, sometimes good ones, but he is clumsy and oafish to watch compared to the likes of Sergio Augero and Messi who handle the ball so beautifully and stylishly. They are a joy to watch. Rooney pales into comparison.
