To take weight loss pills/aids for a few weeks?

I am 'just' in the overweight catagory (BMI 25.5) but today being the first day sunny enough for shorts, have just discovered none of my shorts fit me!

I am a terrible eater and I know it - deep rooted food issues which I am trying to change but find hard. I go on holiday in a few weeks and need to shed some weight!

Would it be wrong/unreasonable to take weight loss pills for a few weeks to kick start? I also plan on trying to eat healthier (difficult for me) and up the exercise (but not much time).

Anyone tried any that worked?

Eating healthier and starting exercise will be enough. Meal plan, that's the key!

Jesus, at 25.5 you are scarcely overweight. I don't know the exact sums but at that level I am sure you will be below the average weight for your height. If you try to eat a bit more healthily and get out for the odd walk of something, that should be more than fine. If you have real psychological issues with food, then getting into diet pills and the like is liable to make things worse.

RelaxedLil · 08/06/2014 20:17

Most weight loss pills only work well if you restrict your eating too. ie they they make you lose more weight on a calorie controlled diet because they increase your metabolism by making your heart rate go higher or your blood pressure. Reductil was the most effective and it was withdrawn from the UK market as it was considered too dangerous so you can't get it any more anywhere. The rest I wouldn't bother with.

If you are that BMI you should lose weight pretty quickly if you restrict your calorie intake quite a bit. Try 5 days on, two (weekend days) off.

They make you shit yourself.

I bought some Raspberry Ketones 600mg off amazon. I weighed 10.10st before taking them and weighed 9.6 stone after a month. I didnt do any excercise but i did drink a lot of water. They made me really hot though and i felt wired off them lol. But aside from that they worked. And i lost the 6lb without even.trying after i dtopped taking ketones and am now at 9st.

I've tried some before, they just suppressed my appetite for a few hours but then after they'd worn off id feel really hungry, more than usual
I lost 3 or 4 lbs but I was drinking a lot of water
They made me sweat like crazy and feel really spaced out, I wouldn't drive if id had one that day as I really couldn't concentrate at all

SunshineofRay · 08/06/2014 20:52

I also had the runs to the point I was scared to pass wind!

Runesigil · 08/06/2014 22:08

Maybe try swapping your carbs for konjac for a month to see if that helps, you shouldn't be hungry doing that, a long as you're okay with the taste. Do your own research, konjac is something I've not yet tried (yet) but from reading other folks' experiences, apparently some brands are fine for taste and others not.

thenightsky · 08/06/2014 22:12

I tried them under similar circumstances as OP. Just made me sweat and my heart race. Lost 2lb max, which is only the equivalent of a couple of decent shits.

Low carb like fuck till you go away... look at the bootcamp two week programme on here. I dropped 11lb doing that for two weeks.

Purplepoodle · 08/06/2014 22:44

When I started slimming world I lost 7lb in my first week and I eat very well

SaucyJack · 08/06/2014 22:48

Don't eat bread/pasta/rice/potaters/pulses or anything with sugar in for a month and the weight will fall off.

Try the 30 Day Shred programme as it deals with weight issues via diet & exercise not just by popping pills.

AdorableAbbie · 22/06/2014 14:53

It was hard for me to control my big appetite in the past. The more I exercise, the more I eat. Good thing I discovered Liproxenol max -- it helped me control my appetite so I'm now eating much less and had lost weight since. Based from my experience, I'd say, there's nothing wrong in taking appetite suppressant pills.

DenzelWashington · 22/06/2014 14:55

if it works, there is a big risk they will simply entrench you in your disordered eating because deep down you think you can reach for this as a fix. So I would avoid and tackle the eating issues.

CoffeeTea103 · 22/06/2014 14:58

Why disrespect your body that way? You have a few weeks to make a difference. The summer is hardly a surprise so instead of a quick fix, try to work towards a long term plan.

sillymillyb · 22/06/2014 15:02

In my dark and dodgy past I used to take all sorts of diet pills.

I second that they either make you shit yourself or are really dodgy. I lived on effergin for several years when I was modelling, it suppressed my appetite and meant I didn't need much sleep.... BUT dear god I was playing Russian roulette. No way would I do that now I had a baby.

What about the 7lbs in 7 days juice diet if you want a kick start?
