Eh

halohalohalo · 07/06/2014 23:44

Sorry, your post isn't very clear. Was your income £1400 per month? And it's now £520 per month?

You're right, they ignore maternity pay/allowance up to about £100pw (I think). So it seems they will owe you. When you will get the additional money and how much I'd have no idea.

ema1983 · 07/06/2014 23:50

Sorry for it not being clear yes it was 1400 for the year before this time round when I did my renewal I had earned 520 for the year so I won't owe them anything then?? Once again sorry for not making the post clear for u

£1400 for the YEAR?

well maybe you were already getting the maximum entitlement as that is a really low income, so possibly you might not get an increase because you're already getting the maximum tax credits?

Sorry I can't be more helpful - I'm sure someone with more expertise will be able to help.

You might want to add number of children, whether you've got a partner and hours worked for more detailed advice.

MissWimpyDimple · 07/06/2014 23:59

Were you working 16 hours pr week? I guess you must have been to be getting tax credits, but to earn 1400 in a YEAR you must have been in an exceptionally (illegally?) low paid job.

I think on those figures both years would be full credits so I doubt there will be a change either way.

fifi669 · 08/06/2014 00:04

You would have been getting the maximum allowance so nothing is due to/from you

halohalohalo · 08/06/2014 00:06

Oh and if your income has decreased, you shouldn't owe them anything either.

citruslemon · 08/06/2014 00:09

Check the entitled to website
Also as soon as u went in ML and you're income went down did u tell HMRC?

mamma12 · 08/06/2014 00:11

Hi, if you google turn2us helpline, you can call turn2us. Theyre a charity and they will be able to do the exact calculation for you. They also have a calculator on their website but call them if you get confused :)

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 00:18

Thanks everyone I was working part time 16 hrs a week with three children and one child on the way. My income was 1400 per year them when I went on MA it went to 520...as long has I don't owe them anything that's fine thank u x

OP posts:
ema1983 · 08/06/2014 00:20

Yes I did notify them about my maternity allowance the day I went on leave

OP posts:
halohalohalo · 08/06/2014 00:25

You earn less than £2 per hour?
Also maternity pay/allowance should be 90% of wage (if on low wage) so your income should only have dropped to around £1,200 - are you sure your employer is being fair with you?

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 19:04

This is why I am confused I'll have to ring them has something isn't right all I can think is that from April 2013 new tax year to may 2013 I earned this low amount because this is when I went on MA from dwp

OP posts:
TheSultanofPing · 08/06/2014 19:11

If you were working 16 hrs per wk at minimum wage your income would be over 5k. I think you're getting a little bit confused somewhere Op.

justjuanmorebeer · 08/06/2014 19:20

Maybe she started work part way or near the end of a tax year and earned nothing before that

wannabestressfree · 08/06/2014 19:31

I cannot see how you have earned so little if working 16 hours a week.

TheSultanofPing · 08/06/2014 19:33

I never thought of that just Blush

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 19:38

I started work nov2012 worked up until may 2013 then went on MA Xx

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 19:40

Is it worth calling them to double check everything or shall I wait for my award notice etc to come through ..ive never been in this situation before I just don't want to end up owing them anything :(

OP posts:
MissDuke · 08/06/2014 19:49

This is all very confusing. Have you had your renewal pack through? Be sure to provide exact figures to them from your P60 and then see what happens. They won't really tell you much over the phone. I doubt yours will change much, though I don't know if you now not working will impact it - are you a single parent? I don't know if maternity leave counts as working with regards to getting working tax credit.

That wage still seems too low for working 16 hours a week, are you sure you were paid correctly? Did you get the figures from your P60?

lougle · 08/06/2014 20:02

No you won't owe them and they won't owe you. Your income dropped by £500 and they ignore the forest £2500 so there will be no difference.

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 20:11

I am single parent when I was due to go bk to work after maternity leave my boss sold the business week before I was due to go back so I'm now unemployed till find something else..I have phoned them over the phone to.do my renewal last week so will wait for my letters through post and see what they say has your right they don't tell u anything over the phone thank you everyone been helpful even

ema1983 · 08/06/2014 20:13

OP posts:
jacks365 · 08/06/2014 20:16

Did you notify and change your claim when you became unemployed?
