embarrassing bodies...would you?!

Seriously, if you were embarrassed, would you really take part in this show?! Just watched a woman talking about her itchy fanj and showing pics of it!! I mean, she's got to go into work tomorrow...they'll not be able to look her in the eye! And omg, now a bloke has got his balls out!!! Never seen this show before, are these people for real?!

Many of the people who go on Embarrassing Bodies have treatment that wouldn't always be available on the NHS. (Can't give examples as I haven't watched it for ages due to Dr Smug Christian)

If I'd struggled on with a condition that drs wouldn't treat, I would probably consider EB if it meant that it finally got sorted.

I wouldn't go on it but I appreciate the people who do. I have hyperhydrosis and have suffered since I was 11, without knowing what it was. Saw an episode when I was 25 where someone had the same and a simple over the counter remedy was recommended. I went to boots the next day and haven't suffered since :)

Haha, love this show. People go on it saying they are too embarrassed to see their GP about their piles/sore willy etc but will get it out in front of millions of people. Weird Grin

It's the people who are so embarrassed by XYZ that their husband hasn't seen them naked in years but are prepared to get naked in front of thousands of viewers that throw me. Yabu. It's awful.

I wouldn't, but I am grateful tat people will, because it normalises seeking help for things that feel embarrassing.

Some people spend years suffering and trying to get some sort of diagnosis or successful treatments for their problems via the NHS. They often go on EB as a form of desperation. In return, they get private, quick diagnosis, often by some of the best consultants in the country.

I actually find the program sometimes targets vulnerable people by dangling free, private treatment in front of them in return to staring on the show.

It's why so many of the people on there start their problem with "I've had this problem for 5/10/15 years.........."

I see your point afterthought but do you think those people are really going on to heighten awareness of their conditions ? Very altruistic of them if they are because I'd not be getting my privates out on national tv knowing that my colleagues, kids headmaster , mums at school gates would be discussing them the next day!

Does a great job normalising things so I approve of it (as previous posters said) having said that would I get my bits out on camera, NO. I kind of like the thought of being able to look everyone I know in the face, and I cover up my bits for a reason.

Nearly did similar. Had a lot of phone calls from channel 4 production company and was going to be having vulval surgery filmed in the name of 'awareness'. I was only 19 though at the time and thankfully DM, GP and consultant realised for me that it was exploitation - I was being set up as vain/money wasting and sex obsessed.. Pulled out of it and they landed up not being able to do the segment they wanted to as no-one else accepted the offer lol.

If it hadn't been portrayed in that way I would have gone for it. I have a 'remarkable' fanny and it would be interesting to raise awareness of vulval disorders.

Embarrassing Bodies gets you faster, cheaper and better treatment afaik so I can see the attraction.

My GP however maintains that the day she sees a patient on it she knows she's failed as a doctor..

God no! I'd go without any kind of anything in order to save cash for private treatment if NHS wouldn't fund treatment for my condition rather than go on TV with my smelly vaj.

No way. Ever. I'd be like the poor girl that thought she was allergic to her boyfriend because he made her bits itch and it emerged that he'd given her the clap. She didn't even know what it was. Or that in order for him to have given it to her he had caught it from someone else. So they didn't actually lose their virginity to each other. Or something. It would turn out to be something even more embarrassing than the original complaint. Confused

ScarlettDarling - I'm pretty sure most if not all do it for the free treatment rather than any altruistic reasons, but it probably does help others.

I've just told DH that I'm going on it next week. I've got piles, a saggy bum, c-section apron and desiccated boobs. Their solution to everything appears to be cosmetic surgery and I'm up for a bit of free private healthcare. I might ask for a facelift ans shellac nails too.

I can understand the ones who go on for certain things as i think they offer surgery for things that the person may not have been able to get through the nhs.

However the ones that go on and say that they had not had other medical advice for what ever reason and then decide to show the world on a tv show that they have a fanny resembling a cauliflower...just no

Kind of a condemnation of the NHS, isn't it? Most of these people have very serious medical complaints and appear to have come to a dead end in getting them treated.

I can see where people are coming from when they get private boob ops/laser treatment etc out if it, I have no idea why they do on for run if the mill stuff.

A woman in her 20's went in from my town, suddenly it was all over Facebook and so yes I did switch over to see if I recognised her. I seem to see her all the time now walking about. Her condition was thrush of the vagina/bum. Pretty sure she could have quietly gone to her GP.

I've always wondered what the incentives could be for appearing other than the obvious private treatment.

They start by saying 'I've not been to the Drs with this for the last 15 years as far to embarrassing' then bam they wop it out on national tv.

They must have an amazing research team Shock

It baffles me.

Bunch of weirdos. Does anyone remember the guy who thought he had some awful bowel disorder; and he was told that he in fact hadn't learnt to wipe his own arse properly? On national television, in front of millions...
