Moth attack - To want new carpets in the loft room

Let's just say I've been a little slack on deep cleaning the house and the moths have made hay. DH hasn't been snowboarding in 2 years so they settled in under his snowboard under the bed in the loft spare room. It's bad, the hole is huge. Anyhow I've located and worked out why ( moved the boiler into the loft a few years ago + boiling hot + nothing moved up there = moth heaven). I've hovered and binned the bag etc but what I'm wondering is all that lava in the carpet. I would like new carpets but DH says a steam clean will do it. Am I being unreasonable to demand new carpet or wooden flooring? Will the debuggers come back anyway?

In know it's mean and I hope you will get the joke but lava in the carpet made me think of this.

Spelling is overrated. Particularly when it means I get to do a hot floor joke.
