Does anyone else think 4yrs was not enough

Shocked that the ex primary school teacher who pleaded guilty to over 50 sexual offences got just 4 yrs!
They just described some of the offences which were pretty horrific.
I'm not normally a lock 'em up and throw away the key sort, but this sentence seems so light!
What do others think?

Don't know the case but thats disgraceful!!

Be out in 2/3. Get less for theft where no ones hurt.

Poor kids :(

Oops, yes, sorry. He's a paedophile, assaulted about 40 children, and had thousands of images on a computer.

Ten times that sentence wouldn't be long enough. I wonder what the sentencing guidelines are? So many victims, and so very young, too.

racmun · 27/05/2014 23:45

I heard about this briefly in the news and thought exactly the same - why only 4 years?

Haven't wanted to look into what he actually did but 4 years????

Hopefully the case will get called in for sentencing review and increased.

There needs to be a very high minimum sentence for child abuse- starting at say 20 years and increased from there with no early release etc.

Makes me sick that in this country you probably get a higher sentence for white collar fraud than you would child abuse.

AgentZigzag · 27/05/2014 23:47

Four years?? Hmm

I know whoever handed that out has to weigh it up with other serious crimes etc, but that's fucking ridiculous.

It's like what those children went through doesn't mean anything.

I know a longer sentence won't stop even one child from being abused, but I want someone who does something a lot of people care about to at least be seen to have been punished a bit.

He's going to think he's alright carrying on because nothing will be done if he's caught anyway.

OurMiracle1106 · 28/05/2014 00:02

I know someone who done fraud and got 6 Years for stealing a bunch of people's details and getting credit cards in their names. Not a victimless crime granted. But were their lives/future relationships destroyed? Not permanently. Yes their credit rating would have been affected etc BUT they wouldn't have to suffer such enormous consequences of it.

4 years is NOTHING. I believe that people like this need to be kept away from society as what's stopping them doing it to some other poor child?

winkywinkola · 28/05/2014 00:16

Wonder why such a short sentence?

Apparently the public can protest against such short sentences. But I can't find the link.
