Shitty start to the day involved bring stuck in a line of traffic with an oncoming shouty driver waving me to move my car through a too narrow space because we neither of us could easily reverse to allow the other past Result was i smashed the wing mirror of the unattended parked van on my right. Shouty man had to wait while I wrote van man an apology and left number. He then reversed.

Panicked all day about cost of wingmirror, and whether to use insurance, so was literally delighted when van man thanked me for my honesty and said £55 would cover it as he could source one online.

aibu or vv sad to have this be the highlight of my fecking week?

thank you van man.

Wow, what a very nice, honest van man! I'm sure if he had gone to the dealership to get it fixed it would have been much much more than that!
YANBU I would be really happy about that too! Grin

YADNBU! Am happy for you! (I would have beenjust as relieved as you were too.) And well done for being honest by the way.

We (unfortunately) live rather too close to the town centre, and the Street Of A Thousand Late Night Takeaways. When some scrote smashed up DP's van's wingmirror on the way home from the pub one night it cost us about £60 to source and fit a replacement, so Van Man has been entirely fair in that sense. However if he'd parked his van so badly that a car couldn't get through, he really shouldn't be recompensed!

And the person who needs to examine his conscience is the one who hassled you into attempting the impossible pass.

BackforGood · 27/05/2014 00:36

Really Alpaca ? Hmm

How do you know the road wasn't entirely empty when he parked his van there ?
How can it possibly be his fault when his vehicle was stationary and he wasn't even in it?

I had a lorry go into the back of my car and I had one of those bulbous numbers which looked damaged but I popped it out myself and it looked fine. I was on my way for an mot so asked them to check the underneath and it was fine. I rang the transport manager and said it was ok, just a scratch so wouldn't claim from them and a few days later I got a halide bouquet and a bottle of bubbly!

Bumper not number

Theodorous · 27/05/2014 08:38

Huge not halide. Bloody hell

sunshinecity17 · 27/05/2014 09:15

You were very honest.I have had my wing mirror smashed several times and no one has ever owned up

sunshinecity17 · 27/05/2014 09:16

YANBU to use the term 'van man ' though

gargolia · 27/05/2014 14:02

sounds like a good result, would be the cheapest option
