To think this is in extremely poor taste at the very least

Family member is on a stag weekend. I logged on to Facebook earlier and saw some photos had been uploaded. In them he is dressed up as Jimmy Saville and two mates are dressed as school girls with pigtail wigs and licking his nipples.

Would you block someone over this/ say something/ ignore?

Oh god, that is horrible! I'm all for having a laugh but that is just awful. I would report it to FB, even though they will probably not do anything about it.

Def block him.

TruJay · 24/05/2014 16:56

Not remotely funny! I would not talk to someone who did that and would make a point of telling them so by commenting on the photo. Who in their right mind would choose that as their fancy dress?!

RedRoom · 24/05/2014 17:33

Hilarious- if you are immature, pissed and insensitive. Not so much to everyone else.

WelshBlackbird · 24/05/2014 17:36

Make a comment on their pic letting them know how distasteful you think it is?

Custardo · 24/05/2014 17:36

i'd have to be quite straight forward and say
" I see humour in lots of things, but cannot see any humour in child abuse. I'm sure your intention was onoy to have a laugh, but you should have given it it a bit more thought, ring me if you want to talk it through, but going to block you now as the pictures are offending. "

SU24FencerA · 24/05/2014 17:40

Satire is a difficult concept ...........

HexBramble · 24/05/2014 17:42

Definitely what Custardo said. Do it.
There's lots of humour I find distasteful but I just switch off and turn away.

I couldn't ignore that though. I'd have to leave a similar comment to Custardo's. Where is his sense?

awful.

HexBramble · 24/05/2014 17:48

SU24 but surely satire is meant to make it's audience laugh in discomfort? This kind of stunt is more likely to make innocent people have fucking nightmares.

Yanbu, there's absolutely not one jot of humour in that. Shock

maddy68 · 24/05/2014 18:08

Why comment? It's supposed to be In bad taste. It's a stag night! If you don't like them, hide them. You'll just look like a dick if you comment.
I'm sure none of them approve of his activities!

It's a stag they are tacky as fuck and I'm glad DH isn't the sort to have that shit.

However in this case commenting is going to do nothing but give them pleasure at getting a rise so I would just de friend tbh.

oh and SU24 You are sounding a little flipping odd to say the least. Dreams of Jimmy Saville? Thin line mate thin line.

IonaMumsnet · 24/05/2014 19:00

Evening campers! We've deleted a post here that was beyond the pale (and one that quoted it I'm afraid).

As you were.

HexBramble · 24/05/2014 20:02

Ah. A deletion. I'm now a fully fledged MN'er.

Oh wait.... Not quite...

SU24 You're a twat.

There.

No don't write that. He will turn it on you and no need to lower your self and effectively be the laughing stock. Just defined and carry on as you were are and next time you see him tell him what dick he looked

IonaMumsnet · 24/05/2014 20:41

Hex - I'm afraid we had to delete your post because you were quoting the beyond the pale post. Sorry! (But bit pointless for us to delete the first post otherwise).

Hey I want to be deleted. I've never been deleted I feel half fledged!

I kind of alluded to the deleted post doesn't that count?

HexBramble · 24/05/2014 23:47

Grin Iona, I totally understand.
I feel almost virtuous.

SU24 still an utter twat though.

giraffescantboogie · 24/05/2014 23:49

bluugh

littledrummergirl · 24/05/2014 23:55
Envy I never got a rossette for becoming a fully fledged mumsnetterSad That is all. As you were Wink
Caitlin17 · 25/05/2014 00:10

That is vile. I don't have a Facebook account and don't look at any one else's so not sure how it works but I'm puzzled how anyone could be stupid and coarse enough to do that at all but plastering over the Internet is mind bogglingly crass.

blameitonthecaffeine · 25/05/2014 01:44

Some students at the university I used to go to held a themed social where 3rd years dressed up as Jimmy Saville, 2nd years as police officers and 1st years as school girls.

I posted about how awful it was and said that I had never had to be ashamed of where I went to uni before.

I was told that I was over reacting and that it was just a bit of fun. This was around the time of the scandal too.

Funny how different threads go different ways.

YANBU by the way, I totally agree. But, judging from the comments I got, I was expecting more YABUs.
