I don't know either, but I removed something remarkably similar a couple of days ago that had exploded out of one of my wall baskets!

Bearandcub · 15/05/2014 08:12

[marks place on thread for giant-spotting later]

I don't know OP whatever could it be?

CauldronOfFrogsLegs · 15/05/2014 08:15

Have you swapped any cows recently?

CauldronOfFrogsLegs · 15/05/2014 08:15
Grin
QuintessentiallyQS · 15/05/2014 08:15

I am slightly concerned that I will either up with a Giant scenario or Little Shop of Horrors, if I dont pull it out.

But what if it is a hollyhock? I planted some two years ago, somewhere else. They did not show up. Maybe they migrated. Confused

No, not swapped any cows. They are all there.

It's a very common weed, had 3 of them on my allotment - one of them was in the rhubarb so I didn't notice it and it was 4 foot tall.

I wish all weeds looked like that as at least you can see them instead of getting down on your hands and knees to pick up every bit of that sticky willie stuff.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/05/2014 08:20

It might be a hollyhock though I've never let my weed flower so wouldn't know. The leaves look a bit like one.

Deathraystare · 15/05/2014 08:20

Birds probably dropped a seed. I had a hollyhock growing out of hanging basket and a Buddleia growing out of the wall!!!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 15/05/2014 08:21

Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of mumsnetter

Bearandcub · 15/05/2014 08:26

Now if you are going to see the giant perhaps you could have a proper mumsnet conversation with Mrs Giant about Refuge and LTB or fiscal responsibility instead of hoarding golden eggs.

QuintessentiallyQS · 15/05/2014 09:46

No, sorry. I will go for my own riches, serve my own interests, and not have a care for anybody else than me, my tax bill and my peers. I am human, innit!

It's not giant hogweed is it?

If it is, be very careful, it acts like a stinging nettle but much worse. It used to be a notifyable plant at one point, and people were hospitalised round where I lved from the touch.

I don't think the leaves look right-it looks more like a sowthistle from the photo-but do be careful if there's any danger of giant hogweed.

QuintessentiallyQS · 15/05/2014 11:00

Not Hogweed, or Heracleum, where I grew up, we have jungles of the stuff. If it was, I would plant it in a large pot, as it is very pretty, but chop the blooms off before they seed.
Sow thistle is too small.

CrazyCatLady13 · 15/05/2014 13:08

I had one in my garden last year. No idea what it is, but it didn't do any harm & wrapped nicely around the fence. Had tiny flowers but looked better than the plain fence!

springlamb · 15/05/2014 13:12

I am amazed that no one has 'vom emoticoned' Laurier for getting down onto the floor to pick up sticky willie stuff.
I don't wanna know.

zoemaguire · 15/05/2014 13:22

I'd say Hollyhock.

Until last week my garden was a barren wasteland. Now it has turf, and beds, and I've been to the garden centre and bought lots of plants, so I'm an expert.

GoldenGytha · 15/05/2014 13:29

springlamb I don't know the first thing about plants and gardening, but we used to delight in throwing stickie willies at each otheq when we were kids Grin

QuintessentiallyQS · 15/05/2014 13:37

So far it looks more like Indian Mustard to me...

I think I must replant in a pot, divide, rule, and investigate, is that not the way?

OP posts:
BornFreeButinChains · 15/05/2014 13:46

not holy hock

MaoamMuncher · 15/05/2014 13:51

Oh I can beat that.......we ended up with a full on, fucking, TREE growing out of our cavity wall, trunk, branches, the lot.........it was a good 6ft tall before we realised it wasn't the neighbours Hmm

Coumarin · 15/05/2014 14:00

Climb it!
