About tax credits and HMRC

Not technically AIBU but posted here for traffic.

My tax credits have been stopped due to the new auto renewal system where you don't need to phone and renew if the details on your renewal are correct.

The problem is I've had problems with my national insurance number being linked to someone else's income. It's been ongoing for four years. I spoke to HMRC in feb and they said its been sorted and I have a letter to prove it.

However when I phoned today to try sort this mess out I couldn't get past security as the details they hold for me are wrong yet I got through fine in feb.

Now I'm told it can take ten weeks to sort tax credits so I'm left with no money to pay rent or feed my DCs.

What can I do? I've phoned the council and told them, there's nothing I can cancel except my phone but I need that to try and sort this mess out.

Sorry this is jumbled but I'm panicking right now. I can't think of anything else I can do.

I would advise that you call citizens advise they will be able to help you and give you options for how to deal with this.

Or try your MPs office. They can be helpful in getting through.

I've just spoke to my MPs office and they've asked me to email the details and they'll see if they can help. CAB said I need to go to see them which I can't do till Friday as ds spent last night throwing up.

Someone from HMRC accounts is looking into it as they can't understand why its happened again as their records show the case was closed.

The brilliant advice from tax credits when I asked if there was any way to speed the renewal up as I've got nothing to buy food with was to use the local food bank.

I've managed to borrow some money to tide us over for a week, possibly two if I'm very careful. I hate relying in tax credits but we're stuck until ds2 goes to school as childcare would wipe out my wage.
