AIBU to ask them to turn it down the first night? It's driving ds to distraction (he has ASD) and there's no way dd will sleep with it going.

No, start as you mean to go on, ask them first day and don't be too nice about it. Invite one of them in to hear what it is like.

Knocked on the door, no answer, it's that loud they probably didn't hear me. So I have written a very polite note telling them how sound carries in these flats and I would really prefer not to be listening to "walk on the wild side" at 9.00 pm when I am trying to get my kids to bed. Also told them to let me know if they ever hear, me, which they won't as I am tres considerate!

The music is as loud as if it was in here and has been since six o'clock, I can't hear my own TV and my eldest autistic child was rocking with his hands over his ears.

Anyway, I heard someone come downstairs and go out so must have seen the note and the music was turned down immediately. I feel slightly bad now but extremely happy that it's over.

No you shouldnt be affected by others people noise to that extent.

The best thing to do would be really friendly and apologetic and ask one of them to come and hear it...and say as you said if I make noise please tell me.

It doesn't matter if the very loud music is at 3pm on a Wednesday, it's not on.

Try and follow this up and be really sweet and say your so sorry and its so annoying flats have thin walls...and thank them..

I will definitely follow it up. I feel a lot happier because they turned it right down as soon as they saw the note. They probably just didn't realise. Yesterday she asked me to move a book case I have in the hall to allow her to get her stuff in more easily and I did it straight away, hopefully we can get on ok.

Nicki, not long after we moved into our house the young lad next-door had his music on very loud. We had just moved from a house where we had a nightmare noisy neighbour. DH went round and asked him to turn it down, he apologised and it's never happened again.
He's a nice lad, and I feel a little bad, but I'm glad we nipped it in the bud as it were.

It's Sunday night. Dd has school tomorrow. I don't want to help them celebrate tbh and I don't want to be up all night with distressed ds, I am in my own with them so I wouldn't have any help dealing with it. It's stopped and I am happy for that.

They're in their late thirties with a teenage daughter. I doubt it's their first flat.

Glad it has. And, fingers crossed, I think it bodes well for them as future neighbours that they turned music down as soon as they read note.

I do too oven in fact I love them for it as ds is calm now. Maybe I will bake them a welcome cake
