To feel conned by this hen do

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 00:54

I've just been to a hen do.

The first part was at hen's house. A bunting making workshop. This would be almost bottom of the list in terms of activities I'd want to do,but I appreciate that everyone's different. We were asked in advance to pay £15 for the workshop. It turns out that it was run by the hen's friend and that the bunting is for the wedding. I made one triangle.

AIBU to think the price was taking the piss?

Sorry for this. But.....wa ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

angeltulips · 11/05/2014 00:57

Jesus that sounds boring. Sorry :(

Bunbaker · 11/05/2014 00:57

No. Your "friend" was taking the piss.

YouTheCat · 11/05/2014 00:58

How utterly shit. £15!

EduCated · 11/05/2014 00:58

Blimey, what a swizz! You've been conned well and truly, I'm afraid.

Cornettoninja · 11/05/2014 00:58

GrinShockGrin

I'm just speechless! I've got to admire that level of sheer brazenness but my god!

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/05/2014 00:58

Fuck me pink OP!
You've been had. Deduct the £15 from the wedding present fund for cheekiness!

AgentZigzag · 11/05/2014 00:58

Yup, totally taking the piss, not just the price but the activity (wasn't there a thread about cunt bunting? That might have gone down better?) and the fact that she was getting you all to pay for it!

Although you should have made more than just one triangle to get your/her moneys worth Grin

Cheeky mare.

What's she like normally?

AgentZigzag · 11/05/2014 01:00

And who dreamt up bunting making workshops??

I bet it was on an afternoon down the pub Grin

steff13 · 11/05/2014 01:00

When you said bunt, I thought you meant a bunt cake. :)

Wow, that's wrong in so many ways. You had to work to make decorations for the wedding venue, and paid for the privilege? Lame. Was the the whole party?

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 01:03

She's the loveliest, most generous person normally. Maybe it's more down to the bridesmaids. One in particular was rather over officious! And the bunting lady told me off for using a needle rather than a pin! I decided to stop at one to enjoy the food and drink :) (that we were asked to bring).

AgentZigzag · 11/05/2014 01:03

I need to know now what you were doing when you should have been making your triangles Grin

And what the faces of the other people there were like when it was revealed that you were paying for them for her wedding.

squoosh · 11/05/2014 01:04

I can but admire them for such blatant cheek!

AgentZigzag · 11/05/2014 01:05

Hahahaha Grin

It's a memory you'll treasure forever OP.

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 01:06

Should say that the bunting lady was a friend but also does it as part of her living.

OP posts:
Icimoi · 11/05/2014 01:09

I expect bunting lady sold it to the bride as a massive, unusual fun treat, and bride unfortunately believed her.

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 01:12

Yeah, bride is usually so super generous I can't believe she'd purposely take the piss. Ah well, chalk it down to experience.

And I'll be sure to get my pic taken with my triangle on the big day Grin

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 11/05/2014 01:13

That's outrageous! I can see why it would be nice to make something together but making you pay for it it awful. Especially as you don't get the bunting at the end.

Where I live (Australia) people have a "kitchen tea" for their hens party witch is a Tupperware party. With actual Tupperware being sold to your friends at extortionate prices and then the bride to be gets the commission to buy crap for her kitchen cupboards.

BrianTheMole · 11/05/2014 01:15
Grin

Yeah, that sounds shite.

squoosh · 11/05/2014 01:19

You should have told them that bunting at weddings is SO over.

steff13 · 11/05/2014 01:19

Here in the US we have kitchen showers or linen showers or similar, where the guests bring a gift fitting the chosen theme, or just a regular shower where the guests bring whatever gift they choose. I've also been to Tupperware bridal parties and Pure Romance bridal parties, where you are meant to buy a gift for the bride (and ideally something for yourself) at the party, and then the bride also gets the hostess points for the party.

I think it's very nice to have a group of the bride's friends help with putting together a wedding decoration, like the bunting. I think it makes it a lot more special, and I would be happy to do it. I would NOT be happy to pay to do it, nor would I be happy for it to be disguised as a bachelorette party.

GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 11/05/2014 01:21

Tupperware hen parties Shock Fuck me, that's even worse than bunting. It's a close call, mind!

Make sure you get that picture, Binky!

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 01:28

What's cunt bunting?!

OP posts:
GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 11/05/2014 01:34

Well, it could be this (NSFW)

or this

or even this, if you can make any sense of it.

I rather like the radical vagina bunting Wink Not enough to buy it. I hate bunting.

Binkybix · 11/05/2014 01:38

I cannot make any sense of the last entry on cunt bunting!
