I don't get into sport so maybe this is why I find it so irritating.

I do this too, but to movies. If I disagree with something I'm seeing I rant at the screen and have been known to shake my finger at the offending character. I also occasionally shout encouragements, or helpful hints (he's hiding in the cupboard you daft thing, you'll get killed in a minute. Run for it... etc). The idiots never listen to me.
DH has given up trying to understand this.

My husband likes to offer non-stop comments and performance tips to the players when he watches football. It does my head in.

'Come on, cover the back. That's it- don't let him get through. Oh for God's sake [player x]- what the hell was that? Pass it to [player y]. Come on, he's waiting for it. What on earth was that?' That carries on non-stop, without a pause for breath, for ninety minutes.

I have reminded him that no one can hear him except me, and I'm not on the pitch. Makes no difference.

Well I have been known to yell "Oh, ffs come OOOOOOON!!!!" at horror film scene where intended victim is perfectly safe in the house, hears a noise, and then runs off straight into conveniently close dark woods...as you would, of course.

So I can't fault your DH, sorry. These people need telling!

My dh shouts advice to sports people on the Tv about sports he knows nothing about. It drives me crazy! I don't think I'd mind so much if he knew anything at all about what was happening
