To complain about an Optician

DS3 14yo, has been having headaches that last 2 - 3 days, a couple of times a month. Having gone through the same thing with DS2, I knew that if I took him to the Dr, the first thing that they would say was "When did he last have an eye test." DS2 was eventually diagnosed with migraine, which runs in the family.

So, I took DS3 to a local Optician, who prescribed glasses for long sightedness. I was a bit Hmm Confused
as I have been wearing glasses for short-sight since I was about 5yo, and have never noticed DS3 having vision problems.

DS3 got his glasses, started wearing them, and the headaches got worse not better. So, a month in, I made an appointment with a different Optician, who today said that he had perfect eyesight and would definitely not prescribe glasses. Angry In my gut I know that the 2nd Optician is right.

So, would IBU to complain about the 1st Optician, who I presume has made money of the glasses that he prescribed for DS3?

40 years of experience with opticians: go to a national chain, and chances are 90%+ they'll tell you you need new glasses.

Go to a local easy going no sales-pressure owner-manager place, and 90% chance they'll tell you the truth.

Of course there are exceptions.........but after 40 yrs, there is a clear pattern.

Avoid the chains.

It wasn't a chain though! It was an independent local shop. So I thought he would be OK. That's why I am so cross.

I would complain and ask for a refund (if you had to pay any).
Something similar happened to me. I had blurry eyes, so went to optician, was told I was short sighted. Paid out for glasses , went to have glasses fitted, told them my sight didnt seem right, was told I would have to get used to them , sight started to get worse and to cut a long story short I found out I was diabetic.

I had a full refund and yes it was a national chain.

Now we go to a local independent optician who is fantastic .
