Delivery guys muddy feet...

Just got a large delivery - despite me having a beautiful mat for feet to be wiped on they have walked mud/possibly oil? onto my brand new carpet.

I'm so tempted to write to the company and complain - I'm being unreasonable and PFB over a carpet, aren't i?

Er no, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to not walk mud through your house, regardless of whether the carpet is new or not!

Mrsjayy · 09/05/2014 09:36

no of course not, I know somebody this happened to she complained to the company she was compensated for the carpet cleaner she hired, compalin to the delivery company

I'm on the fence here. If he/they were carrying a large/heavy item, it would be really impractical to stop midway to wipe feet off.

That said, in your shoes I would still be angry at the situation.

It would need to be something extremely negligent or deliberate for me to phone up and complain to the company. Wouldn't like someone losing bonus (likely) or job (less likely) for a fairly minor indiscretion.

Hope it cleans up ok.

glenthebattleostrich · 09/05/2014 09:37

No. I've made delivery people take their boots off before. Ring and complain, ask them to pay for your carpet to be cleaned.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 09/05/2014 09:37

Not at all. I've just had a lot of work done on the house and, despite having floors that wipe clean, I noticed that all the workmen who had to come through the house took their shoes off first. It's common courtesy and you're entitled to complain to the delivery company

Mrsjayy · 09/05/2014 09:38

MY husband has boot covers for going into peoples houses it isnt difficult for them not to traipse mud into your house

littlewhitebag · 09/05/2014 09:48

Delivery people usually take their shoes off or put on those plastic shoe covers. They should not be tramping dirt all aver your house. I would complain.

Everythingwillbeok · 09/05/2014 11:52

He should have been more careful I suppose it's a hazard of the job when it's wet outside and you're in and out of people's houses all day.

My FIL did this once we have wooden floors ( plenty of room to walk ) but decided to stand in the centre of the room on the new pale cream rug I mean WTF with muddy trainers on, I getting annoyed thinking about this now and it was ages ago I literally had to get a new rug as it would not come out I was so angry.

Perhaps men don't think about the implications as much.

Waltonswatcher1 · 09/05/2014 11:54

Sorry but its your own fault . If you opened the door and let them in you had opportunity to mention it .

How nasty of them. Next time buy from M and S. I bought a display cabinet from them on line. It was delivered to the second by a group of guys with beautiful manners and armed with carpet strips, dust sheets ,and shoe covers. They assembled the cabinet and picked up every speck of cardboard packaging before they left. Absolutely brilliant.
