To let vocal people put me off getting involved in community projects?

I'd love to be involved as a volunteer in a project that benefits my community but find myself really intimidated about joining in because the people who run the committee also run the PTA at school, are school governors, volunteer as scout leaders etc. I have no issue with them doing that amount of stuff, hats off to them doing it.

What does annoy me though is that because they do all this there is some unspoken deference to them and it's almost like their words are golden and cannot be challenged. They are VERY vocal in their views and have made me not want to join in because, quite frankly, the ideas I have that I know will work well directly oppose what they want to do and tbh I really Cba to be embroiled in an argument in my free time.

I can't help but wonder if others also feel like this or if they Cba to join because this group of people just get on with it.

Aibu to let them intimidate me like this?
