To take boots back to Clarks that I bought 5 months ago

Bought my DD some winter boots from Clarks at the end of November.

She doesn't wear these for school so they have been worn at weekends and over the school holidays. They still fit her and have plenty of wear left in them but one of the side zips have gone so she can't wear these anymore.

Would I be unreasonable to take these back? Whilst we are going into summer she would still wear them on occassions if raining/ walking somwhere...I just feel that a zip is not something that should break after only 5 months.

5 months I'd be celebrating they'd lasted that long

Ha ha - yes I would be if they were school shoes these seem to be trashed within a couple of months in our house but if I bought a pair of boots for myself and a zip went after 5 months I would be pretty pissed off...

Yes, absolutely take them back.

DS has had boots from Clarks that have lasted him until he's grown out of them and still had plenty of wear left in them. I've got boots from Clarks that are 4 years old. I'd certainly have took them back if they were unwearable after 5 months.

Clark's trade off their old good reputation. They are all made in the far east and command a premium price that these days isn't justified.

Return them.

5 months? Not sure what the time limit is on returning goods, but I'm sure it's passed! Especially if she's been wearing them! Maybe email a complaint to head office instead.

I once bought some black boots for myself. After 3 or 4 weeks of regular use walking around on pavements, the heel went through.
I took them back for a refund and was told they weren't designed for walking around in! It's not like I walked up Snowdon or anything!
I did get the refund though.

I would try for a refund if you still have the receipt.

Well, if you don't ask, you don't get. I'd take them back with low expectations.....I'd imagine that they may offer to have the zip repaired/replaced for you at the very least.

Agree with Lauranda that Clarks quality these days is not that great. No reason why we as customers should accept that AND pay premium prices so I would take them back.

I used to work in a shoe shop and we did agree to repair shoes even after a few months of wear when it was clear they hadn't just been abused!
