Not wanting to waste food

Is this unreasonable - Husband is really a bit paranoid about not wasting food - Some bread was really a bit old/teenagers would probably not eat. So I put it in the freezer for him to pull out a slice in the morning and toast - but yesterday decided to help him up and toasted last slice for self. so this morning am woken to about half an hour of banging and crashing, realised he was taking everything out of the freezer to look for this one slice of manky bread. I wouldn't mind only spent all of yesterday carefully stocking freezer for the weekend, and there again it costs money to leave a freezer door open for ages and ages, need electricity for this, its totally pointless. should I just throw the old bread away next time and not try to help him in this?!! Or do we need to inform them of every details - EG ring in a meeting!!!! Have just eaten the last piece of old toast - (I don't think so),.

He does sound a little obsessive! I do my best not to throw out lots of food, and we often have something-on-toast to use up the end of a loaf as a quick meal, but it wouldn't occur to me to freeze the very last slice for another day!

I guess it's up to you how much you 'enable' something that sounds beyond healthy behaviour.

If you want to continue doing it, then maybe agree that leftover bread will be always in a particular place, and if it isn't there then it won't be under everything else.

But I'd be tempted to not put bread in the freezer, and not use it if he puts it there, and leave him to this oddity himself rather than treating it as something sensible.

And also maybe to suggest he should talk to somebody about his obsessive behaviour if this is more than just a one-off eccentricity.

Use the ice-cube 'tray' in the freezer for random slices of bread. They're thin enough to fit and you can easily take out the odd slice that you want. I line mine with greaseproof paper (Sainsbury) and they never stick.
