How to deal with noise!

OK, so this has been bothering me. I don't even know why, it's stupid. I just need a whinge I think!

For a whole host of reasons, I had a tiny wedding - family only. Also for a whole host of reasons (protecting my mother from domineering MIL), we went to see a matinee afterwards in the afternoon.

I was sat in front of an older woman who rustled a bag all the way through. After casting a couple of imploring glances, I turned around and very quietly asked if she wouldn't mind stopping, as I couldn't hear. (I am half deaf). I explained that we'd just got married with a big smile and showed her the ring. She then deliberately started rustling the bag LIKE CRAZY!

I jknow the theatre is a public place, and that you can't control how people behave. I just felt that it took spectacular spite for her deliberately to try to make the situation worse. Fortunately, the theatre staff were lovely and moved DH and me. But I keep wondering why she felt she could do this. Are some people just mean inside?

I think you need to just let it go to be honest.

Yes it was rude of her but...well that's it really.

Not sure why you started explaining you'd just got married in the middle of a matinee to some stranger sitting behind you. Surely that was also annoying for people around.
YANBU to have asked her to stop rustling her bag though and she was very rude to behave the way she did.

DaisyMasie · 30/04/2014 15:31

Sorry 'explaining, in the middle of a matinee, that you'd just got married'.

Joysmum · 30/04/2014 15:34

There is no point in trying to rationalise irrational people. Trying to reason why people are unreasonable isn't possible.

All you can do is conclude that some people are simply twats!

In the middle of a matinee = in the interval. Sorry, I am doing a terrible job at explaining!

How long ago did it happen?

A year ago, almost exactly. I guess that's why I've been thinking about it - first year anniversary and all that.

The other funny thing was that we turned up at the town hall, with me in trademark towering shoes with heels made of a thin piece of metal. The ladies on the door told us we had to go around the other side. Now I live in one of those northern cities where the town hall is the architectural embodiment of nineteenth century civic pride - so it's massive. Tottered about half a mile round to the other side, only to be told it was a case of mistaken identity, and that actually we DID need to be at the front. And it was icy. I remember thinking I was going to have to get married standing on tip toe to disguise the fact that my shoe was going to be broken and wondering vaguely whether my calves would stand it.
