To think that this is NOT how Gumtree works!

I emailed someone about an item of furniture - local to me and could collect easily. Took ages to get a reply, and they said that they had had such a good response to the advert that they were taking viewings over the following week (they offered me Wednesday - this was Sunday) and would make a decision next weekend as to whom they would offer the piece of furniture. I would add that it was not being offered for free, it was in the region of £100, which was a fair price, but not cheap. I said, thanks, but I would probably have found something similar by then.

I know, their stuff, their choices, but this seemed absolutely bonkers to me! It's not like finding a good home for a pet!

Ha ha that does sound a bit OTT. How could they be bothered to do viewings?!!! Maybe the item has sentimental value. Or maybe they are lonely and want the company!

jacks365 · 27/04/2014 17:38

They are probably hoping someone will offer more money to buy it.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 27/04/2014 17:44

The viewings bit was the most bonkers of all! They said "We have had a good response to our advert. We have two people coming to see it today, two more on Monday and one on Tuesday. We can offer you Wednesday afternoon or early evening, or possibly Thursday, although we have someone else coming to see it then. We will be holding viewings all week and will decide next weekend whom we want to sell the item to."

It wasn't a coffee table made out of their beloved stuffed labrador, was it? Grin

HavannaSlife · 27/04/2014 23:12

That's just weird

SaucyJack · 27/04/2014 23:19

It's probably a coded ad for dogging. Was it car related by any chance?

Vikingbiker · 27/04/2014 23:27

What on earth is the precious thing?

NigellasDealer · 27/04/2014 23:29

totally bizarre

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 27/04/2014 23:41

It was a bookshelf! Not an old one, fancy one or anything, just a plain old dark wood one!

LOL at stuffed labrador. Maybe he was the glue that held it together? Grin

What the? No it's not how it works, you sell to the first person who shows up with cash!

EllaFitzgerald · 28/04/2014 02:52

They seem to be getting the sale of their book case confused with a house sale. I'd have told them to forget it as well. I couldn't be bothered with the worry of someone gazumping me!

spatchcock · 28/04/2014 02:53

Very, very odd. They must have a lot of time on their hands. Imagine what it would be like if they tried to sell their house!

"We have 148 viewers over the next year, we can fit you in in October. In January we will make our final decision based on viewer personality and collar size."

AlpacaPicnic · 28/04/2014 07:29

Yeah... They are hoping someone offers them more money for it.

A naughty person would make an appointment to view it and not show up. A very bad person would encourage their friends to all do the same. A wicked person might organise a flash mob...

CloverHeart · 28/04/2014 08:12

I'm all for a flash mob!!
