To wonder what brown bread is capable of?

I went to a friend's for lunch yesterday (I was asked to bring lunch for all the DC) it was 'food shop' day so the supplies I took for the children's lunches was a little meagre: a tin of beans, half a loaf of brown bread, some butter, some yoghurts.
There were 2 x 3 yr olds and 2 x one year olds.

Anyway, as I started to make lunch my friend said "oh, I'll do white bread for my DC as they've never tried brown bread before and I'm worried what it might do"

Just to clarify there is no history of any dietary issues or intolerances. What the hell is brown bread capable of??

Odd !

ouryve · 26/04/2014 14:01

I hear that brown bread is highly toxic and has been known to turn small children into goblins.

Birdsgottafly · 26/04/2014 14:02

Explosive nappies and "the runs".

My Neice's little boy had only been fed on white bread.

I shared some of my brown bread toast with him whilst baby sitting over night. His nappies were worse than usual.

We have noticed this again, he seems sensitive to spelt pasta, as well.

I have heard this of other children, they all can have an odd reaction to different food, under three.

Perhaps she just didn't want to chance it.

Feeling relieved I didn't have to amend that to include 'lighthearted'..

Brown bread actually kills children - it's on the list of banned substances from the World Health Organisation. I'm appalled that you didn't know this joseph Shock

Curls your hair.
Or is that crusts?

ouryve · 26/04/2014 14:09

No - the crusts put hairs on your chest.

gordyslovesheep · 26/04/2014 14:09

sadly for them it's all I buy Grin

It's definitely not capable of tasting as nice as white bread. Can't stand the stuff.

EatDessertFirst · 26/04/2014 14:25

It gives my DM hiccups.

I luffs it.

mumofthemonsters808 · 26/04/2014 14:37

My 2 adore brown bread, its the only bread we eat. But I must admit I do prefer white bread for toast. We all converted when DH went on a high fibre diet and changing his diet stopped his constipation. So there would have been no complaints regarding the lunch in our house. Actually we'd just be grateful you'd brought lunch and my two would probably act like they had never been fed before.

PrincessOfChina · 26/04/2014 14:41

My DM gets horrendous IBS from anything whole wheat like brown bread, pasta etc.

Andrewofgg · 26/04/2014 14:47

Gives you white hair and curly teeth.

Icouldstillbejoseph · 26/04/2014 15:05

FWIW it wasn't wholemeal, just brown

What were you thinking of ?

softlysoftly · 26/04/2014 15:42

Did it start out Brown? Or was it so far into "food shop time" that it was white that had turned brown?

NewNameForSpring · 26/04/2014 15:53

I am a fan of brown bread but I am pretty sure it isn't recommended for small children, definitely the one year olds. Just a bit too tough on their stomachs I think.

Bluestocking · 26/04/2014 15:57

Brown bread is capable of great evil. Every baker has a white loaf sitting on one shoulder and a brown loaf on the other, giving him conflicting advice.

phantomnamechanger · 26/04/2014 16:02

is she a cockney by any chance ?

"brown bread" = dead
