to be uncomfortable with a naked incontinent toddler?

We visited family yesterday. Their two yo dd stripped off after dinner, pooed on the floor and then ran around naked for the rest of the afternoon.

Their house, their rules and I would never have said anything but we are contemplating not visiting for a while.

They made no attempt to dress her and found it hilarious. My 11yo ds1 was mortified, I was more worried about the hygiene factor.

Aibu and a prude? I'm generally very laid back but felt really uncomfortable. I'd be fine with naked kids in the paddling pool in the garden, for eg, or just out of the bath for a run around, but stripping off after dinner, shutting under the table and then spending the afternoon flollopping about naked with no attempt to dress her or even put pants on her made me feel a bit queasy.

Is it me?

Aside from the pooing which is a bit rank ( but part & parcel of having children) there is nothing wrong with a child being naked ffs!

I'd not be too impressed with the pooing, but wouldn't bat an eye over the nakedness. However it's more or less expected with toddlers.

I have a 2yo myself, and if I had guests round (there were fifteen people for dinner) I would have wrestled him into a nappy or at least pants.

I think naked toddlers are wonderful and funny and beautiful but not in company, surely?

The pooing is a bit gross but we have all been there with potty training so cut them some slack on that.

It's not just you, I would be okay with it up to a point, eg the pooing on the floor. Toddlers do strip off and it's very cute to a point, but I would have liked to have seen some attempt to re clothe her.

Hopefully they didn't make you take off your shoes if they have prone to poo in the house, but what has that to do with enforcing clothes at home?

Its you...obviously the toilet/ potty issue needs to be addressed but the naked toddler is a common sight in our house. I dress mine a maximum of twice a day unless we are off out.

My nearly four year old does this all the time he is autistic I am forever dressing him and he is forever undressing himself having said this my seven year old not autistic son also undresses him self as soon as he gets in maybe they just can't see the point.

It's totally you. We all have bodies! I don't see why anyone needs to be mortified by a naked toddler. Inappropriate pooing isn't ideal obviously but it's part of life with tinies.

Well think you have a small point here.

I wouldn't let mine run around naked except in the paddling pool etc. and even then usually had a costume on.

Each to their own but it's not my bag really.

I can imagine your 11 year old ds was a bit embarrassed.

I had 2 toddler dss when my lads were 10 and 11 and we wouldn't have let our girls run around naked in front of their friends.

Bit unnecessary.

I agree with you actually. The poo on the floor is disgusting. I also put pants on my children, visitors may not want your naked child cavorting around while they are trying to eat!

I think that the feelings of older children present should be taken into account, so it depends on how uncomfortable your DS was.

My DD's loved to be naked, it's a running joke because my now 18 year old has no qualms about having very little on ( in a positive way).

I'm used to girls, I would rather little bots aren't naked around me, but I don't see anything wrong in it, iyswim.

I toilet trained over summer and let mine keep clothes off, but again, if there were older children that might of been put off food etc, I would partly try to get them to cover up, but usually fail.

Neither of you are wrong and it is your right to choose not to visit with your DS, until this stage is over.

I would visit alone, though, if not, then it's you.

I agree with you. Just because she's their darling does not mean everyone else thinks her adorable and to me, a naked child belongs in a pool or garden...not in the house crapping in front of guests.

Well what did they do with the poo? DD has lots of no nappy time, often under a dress, and has pooed in front of friends (in our house) recently. I immediately ran to clean it up, plenty of disinfectant on hard floor, apologised and thought nothing more of it.

Naked two year olds are really not a problem.

Well, i'm in the minority then.

When mine were still in nappies and un potty trained i wouldn't have let them run round the house naked in front of 15 dinner guests.

Part of the reason is precisely because there'd be a risk of a shitting incident. Yuk.

Apart from anything else, it resulted in poo on the floor! There's just no need for it, not when you have visitors.

Ok the poo is definitely not nice, but I don't understand why you are fine with naked toddlers in the garden but have a problem with it indoors?

Why can't other people's naked toddlers be wonderful and funny and beautiful? Why do other people's naked toddlers make you feel queasy? And why use that word? A naked 2 year old makes you sick? Honestly trying to understand your thought processes here, as they sound completely off kilter to me.

I have no objection to nuddy toddlers at all. All mine wear in the summer if we are home alone is suncream! However, if we have guests (except maybe DM on her own but I would ask if she didn't mind them going commando) I would at least put pants/knickers and maybe a vest on them especially if people are eating.

The pooing on the floor is a bit much. If it was only for a short while I would have at least put a nappy on them to avoid the situation.

Agree with you too, at least put nappy or pants on, I love seeing my own children but a bare bum and bits in front of 15 others is not appropriate.
