AIBU?

to be uncomfortable with a naked incontinent toddler?

We visited family yesterday. Their two yo dd stripped off after dinner, pooed on the floor and then ran around naked for the rest of the afternoon.

Their house, their rules and I would never have said anything but we are contemplating not visiting for a while.

They made no attempt to dress her and found it hilarious. My 11yo ds1 was mortified, I was more worried about the hygiene factor.

Aibu and a prude? I'm generally very laid back but felt really uncomfortable. I'd be fine with naked kids in the paddling pool in the garden, for eg, or just out of the bath for a run around, but stripping off after dinner, shutting under the table and then spending the afternoon flollopping about naked with no attempt to dress her or even put pants on her made me feel a bit queasy.

Is it me?

Nonsense. We had pre teens and toddlers and didn't allow this.

I can assure you my now grown up lads and now teen girls are normal happy adults.

Storing up a whole heap of trouble?

Don't be ridiculous.

The body have they had their own children yet ? We are too far removed from natural processes IMO and babies and toddlers have no such qualms. Poo, vomit and blood is part of life. (And yes of course you lean it up! I can't see anywhere OP saying the parents didn't.

Poohing on floor is not good.

Nude toddlers is completely natural. Anyone that has an problem with it has issues.

Clearly op has ingrained her issues on to her ds to be 'mortified' - get a fucking grip.

Clean it up obvs. What about a new mother trying to bf her baby, would your ds be mortified by that ? That's what I meant by storing up trouble.

This is a daft thread.

Sometimes people just have to say YABU for the sake of it.

Naked, shitting child throwing themselves around at a dinner party? No. Just no.

It's not remotely acceptable.

Breast feeding can't be compared to a non potty trained toddler running round a large dinner party gathering with a bare arse (and having a crap under the table desert is being served at...), stillwish
I know which one I'd prefer to encounter in the middle of dinner.

Can I just clarify that the naked bit is unacceptable to me because it means there is no barrier between toddler bits/bodily functions and the furniture/guests.

2 year old running around in a nappy. Not my personal choice, but not something that's going to want me to never eat there again.

Both examples of non sexual nudity which is what I assume the 11 yo had a problem with.

I don't mind my children running around naked when appropriate, this is their home. They can be as free as they like. But around 15 guests eating dinner? No way. If I'm the one hosting then I'm already busy cooking, serving up, doing drinks, making sure everything's going to plan etc. I don't need a naked child making everyone uncomfortable and taking focus off my great food and posh pudding. :o I know some people including me wouldn't bat an eyelid but then again why willingly make the ones not used to naked kids uncomfortable? These people are here because I invited them and like them. I don't want my kids arse being the focal point. As for rogue turds? I can't get mad about that. Shit ^does^ happen. Just clear it up. Also I would like to point out that whoever isn't cooking (be it your dp, dm, dsis, bff, etc) should be wrangling the kids. I once even read a friend of a friends dd a bedtime story while she drank her milk because her parents were busy and stressed at a party I went to once. They were very grateful and she fell asleep snuggled up to me.

have they had their own children yet?

Er no as none are in that place yet and all learnt about the facts of life and contraception! What a wierd question!

No it's not cute or funny to have a naked toddler running around all afternoon at a dinner party. It's just daft behaviour and lazy parenting.

As for comparing to breastfeeding! WTAF.

Eating is a socially acceptable watchable event.

Shitting is not.

Why is a toddlers body embarrasing? As long as the wee thing wasn't cold , I really think yabu. I find this prudish behaviour about kids very odd and rather baffling!

Yanbu. I would feel uncomfortable to allow my toddler to be naked at a dinner party. She's never done the whole taking clothes off thing, other than at bath time of course. Maybe my penchant for wearing clothes has passed on to her, who knows.

Not being unreasonable at all re all of it. I don't think there is anythhing wrong with naked toddlers at home, but when you have dinner guests, you want to minimise the likelihood of incidents like the pooing from occurring. Which means underwear on. If the child takes it off, you try to put it back on. Not everyone thinks your kids antics are adorable. Tweenies/teens would definitely be uncomfortable about it. Their feelings are just as valid as your precious toddlers feelings. And not pooing in front of dinner guests is definitely one lesson you want to impart asap.

The undertaker who laid my Dad out put it well when she asked for clothes to dress him in.

"No shoes as he won't be walking, underpants as he'll be in company".

cavort
k??v??t/
verb
gerund or present participle: cavorting
1.
jump or dance around excitedly.
"the players cavorted about the pitch"

informal
engage enthusiastically in sexual or disreputable pursuits.
"he'd been cavorting with a hooker"

I'm quite sure whoever used it didn't intend for it to be taken that way but when there are so many other words available it seems unnecessary to use one with such a commonly used alternative connotation.

YANBU. I would have felt very uncomfortable with a naked toddler running around during a visit. DS did that once, and I got him straight back into his clothes. It's fine when just family are home, but when you have guests it's just rude. When you have guests who are eating, it's very rude.
