Trivial but annoying.

Have those responsible for the advert ever seen/smelt a student? Or ever been in a student house share grot.

One of the ads where they go to a party but the music won't stream so go back to the fancy flat - that's the type of student house I remember!

Their flat is nicer than my house!

EBearhug · 20/04/2014 16:59

Yeah, it should have a saggy old brown sofa, one of those round light shades that is wire covered with tissue paper, there should be stacks of used mugs around, the floor shouldn't have seen a vacuum all term...

thebodydoestricks · 20/04/2014 17:03

Yes and the kitchen should be like a war zone of devestation.

Also the students are far too clean and ironed.

Mine looked like Armesh after a few weeks of not shaving and a good soapy bath wouldn't have gone a miss.

RuthlessBaggage · 20/04/2014 17:26

They must be dealing drugs - they're far too comfortably off!Grin

GertyD · 20/04/2014 18:44

Those ads give me the rage. Pretentious bastards.

pigsDOfly · 20/04/2014 19:02

And they can't be very intelligent students if they're using BT because if you're using BT's cheap Broadband service it's horribly slow and not actually that cheap - I've just changed from them to a much better supplier - or they are very rich students and as RuthlessBaggage says, they're dealing drugs, so can afford the best BT have to offer, which is pretty expensive imo.

Germgirl · 20/04/2014 19:05

They annoy me inordinately too but if you remember the very first one, the weird one's mum had given him the flat IIRC. So I suppose that's why it's a nice flat.
Not sure how they afford to keep it so nice though. Maybe mummy is paying the bills too.
Maybe I've thought about it all a bit too much.

RuthlessBaggage · 20/04/2014 19:30

The other thing that gives me the RAGE is that the advert promises it's £8 a month, but the small print says it's £16pcm after six months, and compulsory line rental at £15.99 for the duration. So that £8 is actually £32 and you're tied in. Thanks?

RuthlessBaggage · 20/04/2014 19:31

Maybe posh one's mother employs a cleaner?

And where's the implausibly leggy girlfriend he couldn't stop slurping?

ForalltheSaints · 20/04/2014 21:53

It's an advert, of course it's unreal.

growingolddicustingly · 20/04/2014 22:17

Slinks into thread to admit she has a mum crush on the weird one. Slinks out again.

squoosh · 20/04/2014 22:20

They should have gone with a different theme. It doesn't even make an attempt at looking like a student flat.

Coumarin · 20/04/2014 23:40

A girl I was in halls with had a wealthy Father who bought and equipped a new build house for her to live in with 4 of her friends from her course. It had en suites to three of the rooms, a garden, a large kitchen with a dishwasher, coffee machine and one of those huge American style fridges.

They all had fancy laptops and a shared pet bunny.

I could only look on in awe from our clapped out Victorian terraces with one bathroom between 6 girls and a boiler that only worked if you hit it in a certain place.

My money's on the annoying shiny girl's Dad owning their flat.

pigsDOfly · 21/04/2014 00:18

No Coumarin the annoying shiny girl's Dad doesn't own the flat because when the first ad showed she turned up at the same time as the good looking guy to view the flat and the weird guy was already insitu.

Disclaimer: I am a sad person with no life.

thebodydoestricks · 21/04/2014 00:29

Mmmmm ok. We are all jealously a pretend student life style which we and our kids didn't /havnt got.

Grin

pigsDOfly · 21/04/2014 00:36

Not sure about a pretend student lifestyle thebody, but the BMW driven by one of the students who used to live next door to me certainly beat my 11 year old car.

ComposHat · 21/04/2014 02:06

I worked at Royal Holloway and almost got run over on campus by an airheaded student in a Lexus. I am not sure which part of the situation I found annoying.

So it is not that yhey are too rich, it is thst they are too old. They all look mid 30s. It took me ages to work out they were students not thirty somethings sharing a flat.

I find the Renault advert on about a year ago the most annoying. Young chap buys brand new clio straight out of university, gets job that pays enough to buy flat, gets married and produces sprog. Buys bigger brand new Renault. Tagline 'because a lot can happen in five years'

Where were the zero hour contracts in no prospect service sector jobs? The years spent in shared hovels? The crippling self doubt and lingering sense of your life going down the toilet?

Coumarin · 21/04/2014 02:25

Oh yes you're right Pigs I was possibly projecting my own experience there. not that I was jealous of old halls girl and her posh student digs. Oh no.

Ok, maybe weird guy is actually a mature student of, say, 45? He's an ex stock broker who had a mid life and went back to uni to study philosophy. He wanted to blend in so chose to do the whole student flat-share thing but has been loaded for so long that he got it slightly wrong.

x2boys · 21/04/2014 09:41

Ha ha comurin this reminds me of when I wasa student nurse twenty years ago we had a great big barn of a place threadbear brown carpets saggy settes one bathroom between five girls we lived next door to five boys all students we were all great friends and had great parties it was the days before the internet so there was no streaming of music stereos worked just fine for us!

thebodydoestricks · 21/04/2014 09:46

Pigs!!! BMW! Yes gods! And yes they look far too old and clean.

OP posts:
lollilou · 21/04/2014 09:51

How can they all still be students? Surely they've been in that flat for at least 5 years.

PunkrockerGirl · 21/04/2014 12:06

Absolutely OP. In real life they would be living in a complete shithole. This ad has always given me the rage Grin

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 21/04/2014 12:50

I hate them all.I do not understand why they carried on with the family - did Nick from my family get a better offer? The odd one is defs the same age as the other two, but they are far too smug. Also, they are clearly loaded since their heating must be on full whack all winter given their clothes (I lived in student digs until 2 years ago, used to watch the adverts while wearing ALL my clothes and dressing gown).
