At least your mix-ups are based on some similar characteristics. Mine are entirely on similar names. My most embarrassing yet was, when going to see Beowulf with a friend, and told Ray Winstone was in it... "What, the guy with the moustache? The famous fertility expert???"

I once watched a film at my in-laws. Halfway through, my FIL paused it and asked a question that caused my husband to explode, "They're DIFFERENT PEOPLE! Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon are different actors playing different people!" He looked to me for confirmation but sadly I was just as confused as my FIL and had also thought them to be the same person
