Was this employer BU?

I mainly just need to vent but also to ask if this employer was BU.
A couple of weeks ago I rang up about a job. The person I spoke to said I sounded “amazing” and I was top of their interview list. They had accidentally scheduled the interviews for Good Friday so they were going to reschedule them and call me with the new date. I was so excited. So I waited. And waited. Today I rang back to check if they'd scheduled the interviews yet. I spoke to the same person, who didn't remember me and apparently the company has decided not to recruit in my area after all (after already advertising jobs here). I thought firstly, thanks for the heads up! Secondly, why get my hopes up! If he had told me when we first spoke that it was uncertain I wouldn't have emotionally invested in it. Instead he made it sound like I had a real shot at the job, offered me an interview and then didn't even bother to get back to me!

AIBU to think they were unprofessional and should have been more clear in their communication with me?

I'm afraid it happens a fair bit . Requirements can easily change , especially if there is suddenly a cut back in funding or company restructure . But yes they should have contacted you to say it wouldn't be going ahead.

Thank you, that reminded me it's not personal. I really wish he hadn't talked it up so much though. The way he was going on it sounded like I was in there and the interview was only a formality. If he had been more neutral and professional it would have been easier to accept it coming to nothing.

Just out of interest the company wasn't an orange logo'd retailer of DIY stuff whose name rhymes with Wee and poo was it?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/04/2014 21:21

Or Tossco. They screwed up a new site interview process where I live, and on the first day had about 50 no shows/rejects. People hadn't been sent joining letters or had been sent them in error. I was in the first group and got a phone call at 4 am. The F word was used on both sides. Still got the job and in a month realised I'd made a HUGE mistake.

Guiltismymaster · 17/04/2014 21:24

nameus What makes you say that?

I think I've just accepted a job with them!

Guilt - I only asked because my DH went through a long interview process with them, got offered a job, waited for weeks for the details to come through and then they arsed about with the location, job title, salary until he told them he wasn't interested. The same job he originally applied for (and which doesn't appear to actually exist) is constantly advertised as being available. I think they get people who they like on board and then decide what to do with them. It was a waste of time and money for my dh.

I had similar happen to me. I had decided it was time to return to work when DS was 3. Applied for my perfect job and got offered it. I was so happy. A week later I got a call saying the person who was meant to be on long term sick had got better and I wasn't needed. I was under the impression it was a permanent position, not sickness cover!

It wasn't wee and poo or Tosscos :) I'm sorry to hear other people have been messed around too, it sucks.

It was a fundraising company. They've been advertising a lot in my area as recently as a few days ago so it's shame they're suddenly not recruiting here anymore, I won't be the only one waiting for an interview who's been let down. I guess I wouldn't want to work for them anyway if they're this unreliable.
