I simply cannot remember the last time I smiled or a laughed what's up with me? Does anyone else feel like this cos all I see are happy smiley people around and I wanna ask why they so happy?

Sad Are you feeling generally low?

manicinsomniac · 16/04/2014 19:36

You probably have smiled and laughed, just not really registered because you know you are unhappy in general. People smile and laugh at funerals, it's just reflex. Even if there's not much joy in it. What about a tv programme or a film. Not one little smile recently? I'm sure you have!

I don't know how happy most people truly are either? Most of us are a mixture, a lot of smiles and laughs are covers, subconscious or people having a good moment in a pretty dark day.

Your post is a little passive aggressive to be honest. I think probably YABU but I'm not sure without knowing what's up. You might NBU.

Unreasonable to not remember? I don't know about unreasonable, depressed sounds more likely?

HoVis2001 · 16/04/2014 19:51

As 500smiles said it sounds like you are depressed, though it's hard to make a judgement both of a stranger and with so little to go on. It does sound, however, as if you've noticed that you're getting significantly less pleasure out of life (not smiling at all anymore) than you used to, which is one of the key signs of depression.

Have you noticed any other changes? Decreased / increased appetite, reduced sex drive, trouble sleeping, trouble concentrating or motivating yourself? I go through periodic bouts of depression and the big alert for me is when I find it very very hard to force myself to do anything - I could just sit for hours staring vacantly into space.

If you think you are depressed, there is a lot of help out there - take heart.

Flowers for you OP

Do you feel low some or all if the time?

Do you do/have things you enjoy and can look forward to?

Would you be willing to see a GP? They can organise some help if they and you feel that you could be depressed.

I went through a period of depression and it's truly awful but there is support.

Take care x

Also, I don't think you were being passive aggressive. If you are feeling depressed, then I know that sort of comment can make you feel vulnerable (when I'm depressed I just obsess over what people think of me in each and every situation), so I just wanted to say that I didn't detect that in your OP at all.

As you already have flowers may I offer Brew? Being British and all the one thing depressed never got in the way of was my appreciation of a cuppa...
