For a 13 yo boy?
Please help settle a long standing disagreement with my son.
I know I should let him choose, but meeting friends and I really think it looks a silly.

You old meanie. It's a 13 year old's job to look silly! As long as he's comfortable, what does it matter?

Chocoholism · 15/04/2014 11:28

I think your being unreasonable. He's 13 years old and wearing shorts with doc marten boots, i don't see anything wrong with that and it could be much worse. Plus he will be happier for your friends meet if you don't give him a hard time over it

SelectAUserName · 15/04/2014 11:30

Are they khaki shorts? Is he going to look like a 1950s scoutmaster?

BigArea · 15/04/2014 11:32

YABVU if you don't let him wear what he wants and take lots of photos to show to future girlfriends Grin

Hulababy · 15/04/2014 11:36

12y dd has worn little denim shorts with her DMs before now. Didn't seem too bad, just a bit student like :)

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 15/04/2014 11:36

Let him wear what he likes. Wink

I love DM's.

partialderivative · 15/04/2014 11:45

DM's are the mark of a stylish young (and old) man.

I'm not sure about the shorts, but wearing DM's over rides any other faux pas.

Stinklebell · 15/04/2014 11:50

I think it looks silly, but that doesn't stop my 12 year old DD from doing it Grin

I've given up all pretence of even caring what my DD wears to be honest, she's the one dressed like it, she can knock herself out

Meeting your friends or meeting his? If he's comfortable, leave him alone.

Pipbin · 15/04/2014 14:45

I used to wear that back in the 80s. DMs are much more expensive than they used to be though.

ElizabethLemon · 15/04/2014 15:02

He sounds fashion forward to me! They are lots of young "hip" people sporting this look at the local art school.

kentishgirl · 15/04/2014 15:30

As long as they aren't Daisy Dukes, let him get on with it.

Why don't you like it? The combo of shorts (hot/summer) and boots (wintery?).

Young people (and not so young) have been wearing big boots with shorts, dresses, all sorts, for decades.

montyB42 · 26/09/2017 11:55

My 12 year old wears doc marten boots some times with long trousers and sometimes with shorts. He is wearing ten hole boots

n0ne · 26/09/2017 12:32

DMs are always cool. Depends on the style of shorts.
