Can't elaborate. Am on hold.

Hmm

But trust me, I have my reasons!!

I HATE British gas. With an absolute burning passion. That is all. Yanbu!!!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 10/04/2014 16:10

Best way I found of getting a quick response was to plaster my complaint all over their Facebook page. I had someone reply within 5 mins.

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 16:51

They're such twats, honestly!

They have this wild fantasy that I owe them £260 for 12 days of electric (moved in and changed to EDF immediately). I told them that even with their massively inflated prices it wouldn't be that high.

Hmm

Didn't want to give them my real name because they make me feel soiled and uncomfortable and I don't want them knowing anything about me. I'll still pay - just not £260 and I will not be giving out personal information to a company I don't trust.

Told them my name was Mrs Cabbage (first thing that came to mind). He told me he didn't believe me. How rude. I expect there's plenty of people called Mrs Cabbage.

Angry on behalf of all of the Mrs Cabbages.

And they all sound stoned. Like they can barely hold a phone. Let alone actually do anything constructive.

Sorry, I know this is serious thread but I am snorting at the thought of all these call centre workers being cabbaged and feeling spaced out (because I am daft enough to think that when I see the words cabbage and stoned in the same paragraph).

vickibee · 10/04/2014 16:58

I work for a letting company and hate dealing with b gas in void periods. They don't listen to you and base their estimated bills on the use age of the last tenant. Clearly when a property is empty the bill isn't going to be 500. Theybarevthreatening debt collection for our unpaid bill even tho we have given reads.

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 17:02

Am back on hold.

Going to pay the fucking bill and get these people out of my life!!

Honestly, how can a company be so corrupt?

Shock

Grin do they honestly think that anyone will ever pay their vastly over estimated bills? I wonder what percentage of the calls taken in their call centres are because of their ridiculous estimates always being wrong?

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 17:10

I offered 70% of the bill and cleared it today.

We've agreed that they will never contact me or darken my doorstep again.

Cunts.

British Gas are a poor representation of what it means to be British.

They should change their name to Wanker Gas.

Angry

bluebirdlady · 10/04/2014 17:17

No, they don't expect you to pay an estimated bill. They expect you to submit an up to date meter reading.

As you know, when you move into a property you enter a deemed contract with the existing supplier. If you move suppliers, you have to pay for the energy used during that period. Provide them meter readings, no estimated bills. When changing suppliers, it is down to the new supplier (edf in this case) to provide the old one with meter reads, perhaps have a go at the "cabbages" there.

Call centre workers aren't morons, they work damned fucking hard for little reward and have to get sworn at at least once an hour. Don't be such a fucking drama queen.

makeminea6x · 10/04/2014 17:21

Hate them. Wanker gas perfect name. We moved into a flat in North-west. Kept trying to set up account. They kept failing to do it but sending "the occupier" red bills - then cut us off. We spent a winter very cold with no hot water sending expensive faxes from the PO with them refusing to reconnect us until we contacted the regulator.

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 17:26

These guys weren't working especially hard.

Not today.

Hmm

And if they sorted stuff out and didn't leave people on hold for 20 minutes with Gobshite Symphony blasting in their little ears we might be slightly less enraged when they pick up the phone.

Also, I've never sworn at anyone on the phone.

And I didn't call anyone a cabbage. I called myself a cabbage.

Wink

Jesus wept, it's an energy bill not a fucking warrant of execution. The clue was in the word estimated - BG need 2 things - one reading the day you move in and another the day you leave. That's it. Without those, you're going to get an estimated bill.

Thank god I'm a lawyer, the fuckers I have to deal with now are far better than the cunts I used to have to talk to when I worked for an energy firm in Uni.

specialsubject · 10/04/2014 17:34

they can't really help you if you won't tell them who you are. It isn't a massive conspiracy to sell you to an evil overlord; it is just a very big company with badly specified IT systems written by very overworked, tired people whose managers promised the impossible.

because that is what always happens.

I agree that if you can't get through, try the Facebook page - that gets a really quick response.

Groovester · 10/04/2014 17:41

I had massive issues with them a few years ago and finally switched. They don't listen and their customer service helpline is appalling. If they suddenly lowered their prices to a fraction of other suppliers, I swear it wouldn't be enough to tempt me back! Grrrrr

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 10/04/2014 19:36

If you work for a wankering dickheaded company then you must be aware that people are going to get angry about the lives that said wankering dickheaded company ruin.

BG had debt collectors calling me EVERY ficking day for months for a debt I didn't owe. The bastards made my life hell and impossible to sort out. The debt collectors were threatening bailiffs and court action so I sought representation. They admitted that they actually owed me money and called off the debt collectors sharpish. It shouldn't be allowed to happen. Bastards.

I hope you get your issue sorted quickly OP, seriously, get legal advice if necessary.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 10/04/2014 19:39

Can they be any worse than NPower? I hope not, they are absolutely hopeless. A year of issues and still not fucking sorted. Arghhhh!

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 19:45

What gets me is that they're allowed to 'estimate' your bill and then hound you for it. Even when it's obviously wrong.

Years ago they sent me a bill for £1700+.

Hmm

You don't get to the til at Tesco, wait for the nice cashier to put on her witches hat, 'predict' the cost of your shopping and then charge you.

No, they bleep it through and tell you the exact amount. Why don't WG do that? Surely in 2014 we have the technology for them to see what each house is using?

FunkyBarnYard · 10/04/2014 19:49

They do it's called a smart meter! Get them changed!

QueenStromba · 10/04/2014 20:27

I have British Gas with a fiery passion. They've set the debt collectors on me twice when I didn't owe them any money. The second time my name hadn't even been on the account because I refused to have anything to do with them (my housemate whose name was on the account didn't hear from them).

They actually rang me up a few months ago and asked if I'd like to come back to them which set me off in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. I think I'm probably off their marketing list now. I honestly wouldn't go back to them if they were giving their gas away for free.

bluebirdlady · 10/04/2014 21:14

QueenStromba, you're lying.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/04/2014 21:21

They do it's called a smart meter! Get them changed!

Be very wary about this. Apparently the smart meters have no display so the only people who can read them are BG. And no other company can read them so it is very hard to switch supplier.

Apologies, that link is to a site of whack jobs, that specific page seems OK though, there was a thread on MN recently where someone was having problems.
